Hi
I have a Ford fiesta S 2006 and periodically it will completely stop. I turn the key and it never fails to start again. This usually happens when changing down to 2nd gear when taking a corner or approaching a round about. It's a bit scary because i loose my power steering making it dangerous if any other vehicles behind me.I have taken the car to a ford garage and the diognostic test shows no fault. Does anyone else have this problem.
Thanx Barbara

This is common on some early ford focus cars, the sister inlaw has a 2000 plate focus and it does exactly this, trouble is it does not put up any engine warning lights so does not leave any codes for ford to read, its not the only one as a mates focus does exactly the same again, I have checked electrical connections and made sure the battery teminals are tight, on the focus at the back of the engine is a crank breather pipe which splits or collapses, it had on this one, i renewed the pipe and thought it was cured, no was not that, been told to check the vehicle speed sensor on the gearbox also to remove and clean the throttle body, its hard to diagnose when its intermittent and not showing any fault codes.

My sister had an early Focus that did that, and apparently it is a known problem with the ignition circuit, possibly the coil/coil pack.

Trouble is if ford cant find the problem with their gear, what chance us, i have replaced the coil pack on a mates mondeo for breaking down, but it started to misfire, this just stops, nightmare.

Get ford to have a look at the alternator. That went on mine and i had the same symptoms.
When drvining along if i put it into neutral the engine would stall.

It's the vehicle speed sensor on the gear box. When it's playing up it thinks you are stationary and shuts the fuel off. Change the speed sensor they're about £20
