How tempted was I to comment on the posts so far.... then I thought, it would be hypocritical of me to go ahead and do so

Hence started this thread for any interested members to generally discuss the content on the other thread.

Thanks for the contributions so far, keep them coming.

Micky I hear what you're saying, and I am going to go to town right NOW! To have a look at the offerings and to handle some of these fine models

Back later,

J.

Haha, cheers, Micky, I didn't think to do that

I had a 'feel' oo er, of the Sony A380, Nikon D5000 and Canon 450d. As Canon is my preferred brand, it is doing well

The other consideration is a second hand body and a couple of nice lenses. Considering a 20d or maybe 40d... decisions decisions

In keeping with this thread.
Kev does your camera have the ability to change the white balance? On mine there is an option to set a custom one. What you do is take a pic in auto and then select that image for the custom white balance. If all goes well alot less light pollution gets into the picture

As i'm sad aswell will go get a pic out the front to demonstrate.

It was at F13 to make it easier to focus in the dark. Another bonus is longer exposure.

Yep. Also with a large aperture F3etc you get a shallow depth of field. (Blury background.) A narrow aperture F13+ etc the whole scene is in focus.

Kev, I have no idea how you got the picture of the bridge, I can only imagine it involves some sort of zoom and then cropping....??

Great pictures guys, Scott I really like the first RS picture and the way it has been 'framed'

O.K, close enough.

Just before we all drove across the bridge, we stopped in a service road to sort out the camcorders etc, this is when i walked around to the front and spotted a large pic on a banner of what was below us; so out came the camera.

close up pic of a pic on a banner.

Another example of white balance.

These were adjusted from the origional raw file in canons photo editor. The first photo was with custom white balance so still room for improvment.

Think kev hit the nail on the head with that comment.

Didn't arrive yesterday, however, DHL managed to get it to me today, well they left it with a neighbour anyway. Looks fantastic, though my CF card has yet to arrive so I can't have a good play yet

What did you get then?

And you can usually take a few shots without a card. Most cameras have some internal memory for a few pics.

I did happily take some pics last night and then realised they weren't available... doesn't seem to have an internal memory. I have purchased a Canon 40d

Well it's been a while, I have had a few pictures now and I have to say, I still have much to learn! Here's a couple which I thought weren't too bad:

1

2

3

This one is actually from a while back (and not from a DSLR) but I did a little processing on it and thought it was nice:

4

I should point out actually that the first three pics are in Brecon and it was VERY cloudy/foggy and hence they don't look as clear as I'd hoped - next to the fourth pic especially
