I am having a problem with my window washer. I press the button and pull the paddle but nothing comes out the front or back. The rear stopped working 3 days ago just when it started getting cold. Now the front wont work either. I have used screen wash as it does help the water to stop freezing- as I thought the water had frozen- but now I get nothing. I have tried hot water in the bottle to flush through and unblock any frozen bits. Still nothing.
I can hear the motor/pump working when I press the button and pull the paddle.

Is there anything I can do myself to get this working?

Well thats what I thought but like I say I have flushed it all through with piping hot water- so that would melt the frozen bits. It's the same during the day when it warms up. I get nothing. I've even poured hot water over the rubber nossles where the jets fire out the water to heat them up. Still nothing.

hmmmmm? Have you checked for leaks? Sounds daft, but could be no fluid in the tank?

No leaks- I do get a small dip or two coming out of the nossle after holding the paddle down for a while but thats it.

i always find mine are deforster if i go for a drive then leave the car for about half an hour, after youve done that pop the bonnet and have a look

have a glamourous assistant hold down the spray button, if one of the hoses has disconnected, nothing will come from the other one due to loss of pressure.

I would still say its the bad weather, all 3 of our cars are suffering the same.
I pulled the cap off the top of the washer bottle on the escort and the cap came off but the pipe to say how much water was in was frozen solid into the water.

The water is not frozen in mine at all- in fact where I was able to empty the tank before the front washer stopped I re-filled with hot water to flush all frozen bits out. It is definately not a freezing problem. I wanna know what the best way to un-clogg the jets is?

Take the washer hoses off the jets and use your squirter, this will see if the hoses are clear from the pump and bottle, i use a hair drier to soften the hose on the jet and twist and pull. If no water comes out its not the jets, if it does then remove the jets and blow through them to see if that clears them, or use a pin or needle to unblock.

I'll try that tonight when I get home.
Nice one.

Any other ideas would be nice to know just in case this doesn't work.

Focus 's are lucky aren't they? They have heated washer jets!

At least I've got heated screens and wing mirrors. That helps I guess...

Have u been using fairy liquid?

If so the pipes/pump/jets will be blocked with gel residue, you will need to strip it all off and back flush the jets/pipes.

Even neat screen wash will freeze at these temperatures though at the moment.

Don't keep operating the pump if it's blocked/frozen you'll burn the pump out

Nope I think they're standard but judging from our lot they dont work very well. Apparently they work off the HFS on the Focus... From what I can gather if you look at the jets underneath the bonnet and if there's a wee wire going to them, it has them

Quote:

Well my ST has wires going to the washer jets under the bonnet so that's a clue

The heating element is built into the back of the washer jet, obviously it's only small. Infact the washer jets have the same sized body as non-heated ones, just these have an empty cavity where the heater element would usually go

Took me 3 years to figure out the Fiesta came with heated wing mirrors when you switched the heated rear screen on

Not sure about all Fiestas but all STs do lol Only when we saw the bfs was up for sale & I laughed at the heated wing mirrors comment to which he replied "What you mean you never knew?"
