I thought I'd open a fresh thread to help anyone else having problems and can read up on what stage me, Drifter and Pinkrinse are on...

A little update from me. I think I may need to get my Engine Light sorted sooner rather than march because I've never noticed it till this cold weather but while running the car and digging it out with a shovel from the snow, me and my fiancé can smell how rich it is coming out of the exhaust and it can choke you after a while! I hope my CAT isn't knackered!?
It can really choke you But the car runs really well!?
Any help/info peeps?
Question for Mike and Dave T ST? = When I get my injectors and 2nd custom remap do you think that will rectify the problem of over-fuelling richness?

Many thanks in advance for any help you guys can give!

Hey Kaxe, dont know if I mentioned this before. My engine light is still on with the P0172 and I too have that very rich smell, BUT, I dont have a cat.

For diagnostics picke it up as P0172-E3, where E3 means unserviceable or incorrect injectors. My overfuelling is happening at idle, so the Ford guy reckons my injctors are shot, and "dripping" at low RPM's.

I played around with High Octane fuel (120Ron) and Octane Boosters, this could have fried my injectors.

What fuel are you putting in it Andrew?

Mine smells really rich when running on super but smells fine on normal unleaded (as long as it's not texaco)

Not had the warning light on for a while now and the car has only been doing short journys so lots of extra fuel for when it's cold. Hope you get it sorted out soon but maybe your car is hinting that it needs the sc to use all the extra fuel

Yeah I think mine are dripping at idle

I use BP all the time but now and again trying shell and Texaco to try and see if different fuels help. Never touched cheap super market fuel... But nothing's helping...
Yeah I think they've pushed mine to the limit with the custom map and it's just screaming out for SC lol
It did do really well on the rollers. Jamie said the power bounced up to 205bhp (drools lol) but brought it down so the engine doesn't work too hard which is good... But it has potential!

I run only on Shell. Best performance and best economy. But being at altitude, we only get 95 octane.

Sort of.

I have mentioned this soooo many times...

On a previous i had alllll the simple engine mods available barring cams.

As soon as i fitted a Sports Cat the Mill light came on. It soon went off, and then on again when i put different petrol in.
The day before i chopped her in for another i had the original Cat put back on. As i drove off the forecourt the Mill light was off!!

The inside of my exhaust tail pipe was always Black. (Petrol running too rich)

I changed my for another one and got the same system fitted 'MINUS' the Sports Cat, the inside of the tailpipe is squeeky clean...

In other words, the second Hego sensor is picking up unburnt fuel emissions. As Steve says, not so much the sensor, but the Cat that needs heatwrapping.

Always reckoned the one of the two codes I had that threw the EML light up was because of the sports cat. Nowt wrong with it, its just too free flowing heh

I remember talking to Davetst at length about this and the best solution there was is to heat wrap the manifold. Because the cat sits so far down on the st it dosn't really get hot enough to work at it's best. By wrapping/ coating the manifold you would keep the gasses hot for longer and get the cat hotter and working more efficently.

I think he suggested it for the standard manifold aswell (dave where are you ). Wrap wouldn't be as good because of the shape but could get it ceramically coated.

Hi Guys, yep heat wrap or coat the whole lot from the manifold down to about 4" past number two HEGO.

The cat just doesn't get hot enough to perform properly.

If you have no cat on at all then the only solution is to re-map to ignore number two HEGO.

Even standard catted cars will get a benefit by doing this BTW

IT'S OFF! WOOOO!

(well not for long lol ) ...it went off after some steady driving around town. My problem is I don't drive my for long enough and give it a good warm up! I'm always working too much lol

Well I will go out more when it's charged I guess...

I hope everyone's having a good day!
