Help please:

06 facelift ST with just 280000 miles has broken a front suspensions spring. Ford dealers say it's a common problem (they've had quite a few), it's due to the deteriorated road conditions, and BTW, I should have both sides replaced, not just the broken one.

Hadn't budgeted for this, and it sounds like a materials/manufacturing fault? Surely springs don't break that easily/often?

Does this happen often, is it reasonable, and do both need replacing, please?

Not 280000, that's silly! 28000 was what I meant.

Its common for the springs to snap, my cousin runs a garage and changes a lot of broken springs lately, its one of them things. Ford mondeo and focuses seem pretty common.

Both have gone on the wifes car with less than 40k on the clock the AA chap who collected the car one of the times said it's very common but Fords are not the worst by a long way. He gets at least 3 a week to collect!

Don't get me started on this! Happened to me all the time in my clio.
Might be a stupid question but if it happens in my st, before I get it lowered, can I do a straight swap for the springs I want? I'm guessing it depends in how much damage is done?

Hi not been on for ages and ages .Had thesame problem o/s/f spring broke last month knackering the alloy wheel and tyre too.Got hold of customer services and they agreed to pay 50% of the repair cost.Still not good for a car that's 3 and half years old only covering 33,000miles.Ended up having both front springs changed with modified spring cup,new alloy and tyre.
