This: http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/5078366.ELTHAM__Two_year_old_girl_attacked_by_dog/

Happened on my mums road Poor girl.

Plus I was asked buy the police to pick the animal up (I work for the council) but when I got there they needed it for evidence anyway

My nieces have been around there loads and them and my sister walk pass the house to get to my mums, may have even walked past the dog some time

I cant imagine what the family are going thru

All i can say is that my heart goes out to this man and his Family.

Why, Oh Why, are animals like these allowed to be owned by the public, who think that they are harmless, without special licences!!

I know dog owners should have a Dog Licence, but lets face it....are they ever checked out....NO!!

Don't get me wrong here, i have grown up with dogs. I grew up with a poodle in the family until i was 13years old. We then got two Labradores, a bitch and a Dog; the Dog was fully protective of the bitch....and i myself have some scars from 'Ben' (the Dog) myself.

I then left home and bought myself a Black-and-Tan Doberman puppy. When this Dog got to about 12months old he was pure Evil with other dogs, with fantastic intelligence.

Since he departed about 18 years ago, and having a child myself, i have vowed never to have another dog. They are soooo unpredictable.

I used to have a Shotgun licence and owned 3 Shotguns, but i was never allowed to walk the streets with one in my hand. Whats the difference between the two?

A gun in your hand, or another 'Weapon' in your hand, (on a lead), that is 'legal'!!!

Sorry, rant over.

I totally agree with you Kev

At the end of the day tho, criminals drive cars around with no licence or insurance so they're not gonna bother if they introduce the same for dogs

We had a dog when I was young, an Alsation from since I was about 4 and it never done any bad. It just goes to show you can never tell with dogs, and it prob depends on how you treat the dog in the 1st place to, we all loved ours and never hit it and we trained it too.

It seems to me tho that really aggressive dogs have just suddenly popped out the woodwork these past few years All the gang related status I suppose, or just the media suddenly jumping on the band wagon and wanting stories, but still its good there exposing how dangerous these animals can be

Sad story . I went to a medical conference about a year back and one guy talking was a helicopter paramedic. He said he had a case where the dog had chewed the little girl to a nearly unrecognisable state, blood everywhere etc. Police used riot shields to contain the dog while she was air lifted to hospital, and by some miracle she survived. Strange thing was, the parents said the dog was harmless and wanted to keep it...

In fact, dog licences aren't required any more (except in Northern Ireland). I read this just a couple of weeks ago when there was the proposal - since withdrawn already - that it should be mandatory for dog owners to have pet insurance. Apparently it cost more to administer than the cost of a licence which was why it was abolished.

not read it but i can guess what its about and tbh its never the animals fault, at the end of the day they are animals, its all about discipline and the owners who raise them should be responsible 24/7 if the dog got killed then thaats very cruel and tbh the guy should get sent away for it as its animal cruelty, its the owners, ive seen jap akitas playing with babys and never once dared to try anything bad as the owner keeps it inline, so yeah stupid people!!!!!! not the dog!! you can have a wolf dog (probably not legal in this country)but would you let it wander around a little girl, i think not, so why should a dog of that calliber be any different

His dog was literally ripping the face off his toddler baby (she's lost her lower jaw if you read it).. I for one do not blame him for stabbing that thing to death. It would have been killed either way.

I think the bottom line is that you cannot ever trust dogs around kids. My dad said apparently the dog had attacked before and they took it to the vet to be put down who refused and so they brought it home again. Tragic

Wooah, my love goes out to the family that's shocking. I own a Staffordshire Bull terrior and she has been trained properly, I believe it is NOT the dogs that are at fault but the owners. My dog would never dream about going anywhere near a small child and she is great around the family children. Never aggressive towards any person or other dogs and to be honest only really barks if she hears something outside that is unusual. Again if dogs are trained properly you would not hear of these incidents. Owners should hold a licence for such dogs (I have a "dangerous dogs" licence meaning I am allowed to keep them as I have successfully trained 2) my dog never leaves my sight and is only allowed off her lead in a safe environment. Children come up to her and she will sit down for a stroke and a cuddle no bother at all. A dog cannot be held responsible for these incidents, but they should be put down all the same. When a child does something terrible we blame the parents, should be the same for dogs.

i agree stu, i mean c'mon it was his own kid for god sake, the dog must of been on smack to attack a member of its own family i.e the kid, and by that i mean the owner is an absolute sruff and he was probably on smack, not the wild animals fault weve all come to call mans best b=friend is the owners fault, pure and simple. and ido believe any dog large enough to cause physical real damage to a person or child i.e not a pom lol, then the ownere should have an actual liscence card that actually states the dog they own and has the dogs picture on and states its propperly trained etc, who agreees, i could o out right now and buy any dog i want small or a as big as they come, who says i have any idea about how to handle or control them??? kinda like insurance for cars me thinks, at 17 you cannot insure anything remotely qquick

I think you should read the article Azz.

If you have children, believe me, their wellfair and safety become instinct, and this child was only 2 years old for Christs sake, imagine the heartake these parents are going through, their lovely baby now has no Jaw!!

no im only 21 so dont have kids but i understand where your coming from, but me personally i dont care about people they can look after themselves, animals cant, and its to**ers like this that prove my point, people are scum, why the hell would you have such a dog or 3! near a 2 yr old? unsupervised!!>?!?!? its his own damn fault not the animals, i bet the kid was prodding and poking and pulling its ears like all kids do, i mean you wouldnt go upto a bear and poke and prod would you???? fair enough its a terrible thing, but totally the owners fault and he should get sent away, if i saw him id stab him!!! i realy love animals i stiopped in middle of the road other nigth to move a frog that someone had ran over and it was limping, as big n rough as i am i hate people that dont care so have no time for people like the owner of that dog!

Depends was it killed when the guy was protecting his daughter or just viscious revenge?
If just revenge yes it should be put down but not like that
