Agree with Kev, Azz and Adam, but I have to stress my point in that Yes it's a horrible nasty incident but it could and should have been prevented. Dogs like that should NEVER be around children unsupervised, this incident highlights the fact that the dog must be dangerous and has not been trained correctly. Like Azz says the dog is likely to have been provoked by the child and its natural reaction is to defend itself. No doubt the family must be devastated, but I refuse to believe the blame lies solely with the dog. I have my niece due to be born in the next couple of weeks and my sister owns a staff/pit bull cross that was rescued from Manchester dogs home, Marcus (the dog) has been trained correctly and I know for a fact he wont go anywhere near the baby, does this mean I would leave him alone with the child unsupervised? NOT A CHANCE!

Again if ppl read it, there was a bitch in heat in the same house so the male was and had been acting agressively and had already bitten someone else. Imo I wouldnt have left a baby near an already agressive male dog thats hanging around a bitch in heat (whyyyy dont ppl get pets neutered ffs?) BUT ... but I can see why in the grip of what had just happened I can see why that guy killed the dog.
