Adam.
The main thing with tuning a car is trial and error until it suits your driving style. Can take a long time to setup a car and little adjustments make a big difference.
General rule. Soffen the front to reduce understeer/increas oversteer, Stiffen the front to increase understeer/reduce oversteer.
Little list of what the bits do.
Tire pressure. Ideally you want this between 31.5 and 33.5 The closeer to 32 the better. The pressure affect the amount of heat in the tire. If the psi is too low they will be cold. If too high overheat. Good heat for tires in 200f.
Always adjust your pressure after 3 or 4 laps so they are running hot.
Gearing, shorter gearing for better acceleration, Longer for higher top speed. A slimple test for max
useable top spped is mugello full track straight. Go round backwards to the start of the final straigh. Take a run up using the final turn and see how fast you go. If you hit the limiter make them longer. If not shorten them. Alway give yourself 500-1000 rpm if you race to allow for slipstreaming.
Camber.
Ideally you want your tire to be the same temp all the way accross. Maybe very slightly hotter on the outside.
Negative- makes the inner hotter
Positive- Makes the outer hotter
Toe.
Affect the turn in. Straight line stability.
in- more stable on a straight no as good turn in
out- better tun in but less stable on the straight
Arb
Controls the roll of the car. Softer it will be easier to drive and take curbs better, Stiffer more tiwtchy and call roll over on curbs.
Springs
Stiffer at the front than rear will cause understeer. Softer at front will cause oversteer.
Ride height Lower better unless on really bumpy tracks.
Rebound-Stiffer at the front than rear will cause understeer. Softer at front will cause oversteer. Always make sure this is set harder than bump
Bump-Stiffer at the front than rear will cause understeer. Softer at front will cause oversteer.
Braking. If you hit the brakes and understeer into a turn move bias back. If you brake and loose the back end Move forward.
Fwd
Dif. Acceleration- Better grip out of corners. Too much you will just understeer.
Deceleration- gets car stable on braking. (i always set at 0)
Rwd
Accelreation- Better grip out of corners. too much and you will spin
Decelleration- Helps keep the car stable while braking. More will keep the car straight while braking. Less will cause the back end to break loose.
Awd.
Front More acceleration will pull the fron round. Too much and will cause understeer. Set to a maximum of 40%
Decceleration- leave 0
Rear Acceleration will give better grip out of corner. Too much will start a spin.
Deceleration- Helps keep the car stable while braking. More will keep the car straight while braking. Less will cause the back end to break loose.
That is the very basics and tuning is a mine field. After a while you start to get the hang of it and how all the things affect the car.
Have got my fwd fez to within 1 second of robs s5 on the leader boards.
