I'm waiting for the Fiesta RS. Ultimately I'm waiting for something with AWD and 280bhp+ i.e. Focus Cossie.

ST if I can afford at the time... perhaps there will be a delay of 6 months maybe even a year before I get one.

Fiesta ST is out too late for me, I want to have my car replaced by the end of this month and don't plan to change again for at least 12months.

If the Fiesta RS gets made then I'm sure it'll be great, I just hope they do it in RWD format ala Renault Clio V6 - FWD I think the ST would provide a better drive as there is only so much you can put through the front wheels in a small car. If so then I'd chose it all day long above the ST, if not then I'd go for the ST and a motorbike.

I'm waiting for the Focus Cosworth, but in the meantime I'm looking at the Clio 182 or the Civic Type-R.

Hugh, have you thought about the CupraR or Fabia/Octavia vRS. Those two (Octavia and Leon) have really grown on me.

A mate of mine picks his CTR up on Thursday. I would think the CTR would be a more mind blowing drive than the 182 Hugh.

Gazza...

The 182 is twice the car the CTR is in my book. A mate has one and I've driven it a few times - it's a proper riot if you can overlook the frenchness of the build quality.

Im going to book a test drive in a Clio Sport to see how they drive and the power of them and it will compare with the Fezzi RS.

Jim - Yeah, I test drove an Octavia but didn't like the salesman and the Cupra is lovely but too pricey.

Moviesuk - I've driven a friends CTR and found it great fun, although a touch firm.

Dave - I will withold final judgement until I have driven it but I have a friend who owned a Clio from new for 9months and had nothing but grief with it. Eventually after threatening the garage via the solicitor he got a full refund. That coupled with my dislike for the build quality does make me seriously question your statement (especially as anoth 30bhp can be easily obtained from the CTR) but I know that power, and power figures aren't everything. Have you driven a CTR as I'd be interested to know what you didn't like about it.

I've driven the CTR. I found the handling to be twitchy and the backend too light and uncontrollable - when the rear steps out in the Clio you can adjust your angle or hold a slide out of a corner. The CTR just feels like it's out of control. The other major criticism is the steering which is absolutely useless for a hot hatch. The engine is a bit of an issue for me too - it's smooth and free revving but really lacks any real grunt lower in the rev range. The Clio on the other hand is very torquey from 2000rpm upwards. Finally, I still think it looks like an MPV!

I know of a great place where you can get the clio 182 at a much lower price than renault. It's http://www.motorprovider.co.uk. Brand new from £11694. Not bad price.

Dave the steering is an issue, it's done via servos and definitely loses a little something but I must admit I found it very predictable when it stepped out and the engine actually impressed me in the way it pulled from 40mph in 6th. Still, if the 182 can be bought new for 11k I must agree that I can't possibly see the CTR being worth the 5K extra, no way, even considering my dislike of Citroens/Renaults. (thanks Taff ).

I see on the website that Honda civics are coming in so I don’t know if they'd be offering similar discounts for the ctr???

I'm not a sales man for them, honest. It's just the cheapest place I know of to buy a brand new 182.

CTR's weigh in at 17k new and the 15.6k is discounted and with air-con - there's no chance that they're going to get even close to the price of the Clio. The CTR is also sold out in most places until next year. This is certainly the case from any main Honda dealer.
