In praise of Ford I,d like to say that after driving for 12K over bad roads and many miles on dirt tracks and caning it all the time,my ST has not developed a single rattle, squeak or vibration anywhere.Perhaps being a bit heavier than other hot hatches it,s screwed together better.Or maybe Ford are finally getting things right.
Went on the autoroute fot the first time yesterday, found the ride a bit choppy up to 120K but smoothed out afterwards.Didn,t realise what good acceleration it has in 5th.Didn,t go full out but at 200K it was at 5850 and still pulling really strong and as steady as a rock.(seems a bit much to me ,maybe my speedos out)Had a big BMW tailing me he was very surprised especially at the acceleration. He slowed down for a look as I pulled off.

Mine has developed loads of rattles.... probably sounds like a pair of marraccas from outside.

There is one behind the o/s of the dash and the seat belt holding points are noisey. The parcel shelf knocks aswell

Mine has the odd vibration every now and then...and my Dad's brand new one he picked up Saturday had a squeak straight from the showroom

No real rattles on mine after nearly 6k miles, and I drive down some pretty rough roads on my daily commute. Its a world apart from my old 206, the build quality of that was awful, every day you'd be finding a new rattle somewhere in the car.

I have developed squeaky clutch pedal though, which is a bit annoying. Does this require a trip to the dealer's or does anyone know if it can be sorted with a can of WD40 and a long enough straw?

I have the squeaky clutch pedal too..for now I turn the stereo up a bit..

I am gonna do mine myself with some spray grease rather than wd40 as it will last longer

I normally have the stereo reasonably loud so hadn't noticed it much before now. It was only during a pause in a CD when I was stuck in traffic the other day that I realised I had it. What I'm not sure about is where the actual squeak is coming from and whether the mechanism is easily accessible. Will have a look when I've got some more time at the weekend.

I must have the most badly built ST ever...

Total number of faults so far (after 3 months of ownership).....

15!!!

and thats with out repeat repairs.

Ford don't care that they have built a car badly and leave it for the dealership to fix (fair play). By my grip is I had the car with no faults for 2 days and since then the car has had at least one fault.

So i've bought a car that has never been right and there is sweet FA that I can do about it.

I had a rattle from the boot lid when I got it, opened it up and found it was just an ancillary power point that had come unstuck from its foam mounting. No probs since, even the revving 'issue' has sorted itself out, only thing now is to book my ST in to repair the right hand rear seat catch which has been broken since day one.

Everything else has been spot on

Chris

Well personally i think the is the best built car i have ever owned, really solid and well put together. Having a sub in the boot i am used to hearing the plastic trim 'adding' to the beat but you can hear very little from the fiesta its great! Altho the other week i started noticing a funny rattle from the drivers door. It only happened when a reall heavy bass thud came in, i started to worry a bit cos i'd read a few threads saying they had door rattles but could never find out what it was, after a week or two i realised that it was some lose change in the little compartment to the right of the steering column

And yeah mine has developed a squeeky clutch pedal the last few weeks too To coin a phrase from pinkrinse on another thread... solved it by turning the dial on my alpine stereo clockwise

Hi there,

I have a strearing knock over bumps and both my windows creak all the time, originally thought it was the door rubbert seals but its actually where the windows slot in... I have no idea how they going to fix that one???

Is the steering knock from behind the steering wheel? If it is I had the steering column replaced and it imporoved it for a while but its got progressivly worse and back to how it was now.... possibly worse.

I have a steering wheel/column knock as well, its really annoying, am going to ask the garage to look at it, didn’t know it was a common thing.

They will probably tell you they all do that..... but don't have it cos if it gets better with a new steering column then it definatly is a fault. if enough ppl complain to ford then they will bring out a technical service bulletin to repair it.

Had/have exactly the same problem with my driver's door, it got worse and worse, would go away when I put the window down, anyway took it to Fords they p1ssed around, the noise went and has come back again, just not as bad. Will have to take it back again for the 4th time now as they cant get it right.

HI Garreth for the squeaky windows try spraying silicone spray along the inside of the window groove, all along the frame, not into the door panel but along the sides and top...it sorted out my squeak in mine..maybe it helps, cheers

Its probably the wheel bearing.
