It it an engine pinking noise?

If it is it could be the knock sensor.

Or is it on acceleration from the exhaust? if so could be the cat breaking up.

check the thread about pinging. you're not the only one, mine does it all the time and the dealer hasn't been able to fix it...

Hi

I also had a rattle in the engine bay while driving, turned out to be the rod that holds up the bonnet, it was arattling against the bodywork, just put a bit of foam there and that sorted it...maybe yr rattle at taht simple an issue but maybe it is...cheers

Actually, both pinking and pinging are acceptable - check Google.

My car has the problem - I think part of the issue is that the engine runs very hot, although it also manifests when the oil is not fully up to temperature.

I was wondering if changing to a full synthetic oil would help . . .
or maybe changing to a 4-2-1 manifold (exhaust gases get expelled more quickly, less build up of heat), or maybe changing the coolant would do something.

I'm feeling pretty helpless at the moment . . . I think that anyone with the problem should make a real point of bugging the dealers, so all the info gets back to Ford.
