Yep grills are sprayed with Chrome effect spray paint,not very shiny as it dry's near enough matt.

what mm do they need to be for a K&N induction kit?

You can get them in various sizes,depends on what size of intake and ducting you use.
Only the passenger side is ducted on mine as ducting the Drivers side would have been a real pain routing the ducting around the radiator,works great with just one intake.
If you are going to do yours the same take time to measure and mark up the grill and cut out with a dremmel mini drill has to get the intake to fit flush is a bit of a pain in the arse.
