I recently purchased some rear LED lights for my Mk6 Fiesta.

My fiesta is a 2006 GTR Special edition model, but a non - facelift, and the lights I purchased were for pre - facelift cars, so this was all fine.

The unit fits in fine and the brake light + indicators work correctly, however the reverse light comes on in red. There is a clear section on the new lights that I assume may be the reverse light but that doesnt come on, the bottom red light comes on when you put the car in reverse.

I need to have a clear / white reverse light.

Around the back of the new light unit, there is one cable which is not connected, but all the sockets are full with cables and theres no room for this additional cable.

I was wondering, if this additional cable may be the reverse bulb light and if i disconnected the red light and connected this new one that it may work?

Or if anyone else has any other suggestions as to how i can get the clear reverse bulb working, that would be great.

Thanks,

Ben

Sounds like something is amiss. Try using a multimeter and somebody else to activate all the lights whilst you identify which is which. If you know how to use a multimeter it should be straight forward, you are looking for which lights are 12v.

First identify the reverse cable/socket and see where it leads.

Are these red lights the rear fog light? Or are the new LED lights giving you the option to swap a fog light for a reverse light? Some investigation needed I think.

A certain way round it would be to re-wire the reverse lamps using scotch blocks, its fairly easy to do but it looks butchered!

The light which is misbehaving has 1 reverse light and on the other side i have a fog lap, so only 1 reverese + fog light in total.

Im not sure what a multimeter is?

The red light doesnt really have a function at all, on that light i only need an indicator, brake light, sidelight and reverse light, so the bottom light has no use, it comes on when you put the car in reverse for some reason though.

Ill get some more pictures up of my car for you throttle addict!

a multimeter is a tool used in electricity. it allows you to check potentials, currents and resistance between two points. in a nut shell, what you have to do is check for a 12V connection between two wires when pressing(for example) the brake. when you find the connection you would know which wires should fit to the brake light. Similarly for the other lights.

I think a good way to tackle this is use this manner to identify the power sources then pass 12v through your rear lights to identify which is which and connect accordingly ...

thanks for the pics. love the bodywork =)

Ok thanks for that.

Is a multimeter the same sort of thing as a voltage meter for plugs and sockets in houses?

Because i have one of them, just not sure if it does the same job?

Thanks

a voltmeter is used to measure PD(voltage) across two points. a multimeter can be used for voltage, resistance and current =)

Cheers, tonight ill have a look to see if i can figure this out!

Apparently someone said that they could be meant for foreign cars and when i put it in reverse, it actually turns the foglight on rather than the reverse light . And in this case i need to switch a wire over i was told.

Does a white light come on when you put the fog light on? If it does then you prob have the rear lights for a LHD car
