I recently purchased some rear LED lights for my Mk6 Fiesta.

My fiesta is a 2006 GTR Special edition model, but a non - facelift, and the lights I purchased were for pre - facelift cars, so this was all fine.

The unit fits in fine and the brake light + indicators work correctly, however the reverse light comes on in red. There is a clear section on the new lights that I assume may be the reverse light but that doesnt come on, the bottom red light comes on when you put the car in reverse.

I need to have a clear / white reverse light.

Around the back of the new light unit, there is one cable which is not connected, but all the sockets are full with cables and theres no room for this additional cable.

I was wondering, if this additional cable may be the reverse bulb light and if i disconnected the red light and connected this new one that it may work?

Or if anyone else has any other suggestions as to how i can get the clear reverse bulb working, that would be great.

Thanks,

Ben

Sounds like something is amiss. Try using a multimeter and somebody else to activate all the lights whilst you identify which is which. If you know how to use a multimeter it should be straight forward, you are looking for which lights are 12v.

First identify the reverse cable/socket and see where it leads.

Are these red lights the rear fog light? Or are the new LED lights giving you the option to swap a fog light for a reverse light? Some investigation needed I think.

A certain way round it would be to re-wire the reverse lamps using scotch blocks, its fairly easy to do but it looks butchered!

The light which is misbehaving has 1 reverse light and on the other side i have a fog lap, so only 1 reverese + fog light in total.

Im not sure what a multimeter is?

The red light doesnt really have a function at all, on that light i only need an indicator, brake light, sidelight and reverse light, so the bottom light has no use, it comes on when you put the car in reverse for some reason though.

Ill get some more pictures up of my car for you throttle addict!

a multimeter is a tool used in electricity. it allows you to check potentials, currents and resistance between two points. in a nut shell, what you have to do is check for a 12V connection between two wires when pressing(for example) the brake. when you find the connection you would know which wires should fit to the brake light. Similarly for the other lights.

I think a good way to tackle this is use this manner to identify the power sources then pass 12v through your rear lights to identify which is which and connect accordingly ...

thanks for the pics. love the bodywork =)

Ok thanks for that.

Is a multimeter the same sort of thing as a voltage meter for plugs and sockets in houses?

Because i have one of them, just not sure if it does the same job?

Thanks

a voltmeter is used to measure PD(voltage) across two points. a multimeter can be used for voltage, resistance and current =)

Cheers, tonight ill have a look to see if i can figure this out!

Apparently someone said that they could be meant for foreign cars and when i put it in reverse, it actually turns the foglight on rather than the reverse light . And in this case i need to switch a wire over i was told.

Does a white light come on when you put the fog light on? If it does then you prob have the rear lights for a LHD car

It was a limited dealership type special edition. Still a 1.25 but slightly deeper bumpers, a spoiler and GTR wheels

I have now managed to fix the lights.

I think they were meant for a LHD and i had to pull out a wire and insert a new one so the right functions came on

Because before that, when the car was put in reverse, the fog light came on, and when the fog light was put on, the reverse light came on

Its all sorted now though.

Alex H + Kaxe, The Silver fiesta GTR pics posted on here is not the same as mine, that is a facelift one and is slightly different, I prefer the pre facelift model.

Lets be honest though, its not some real pikey modded up car like some you see around and for a 17 year old i think its a very nice car. I dont know any other 17 years olds with a nicely modded car.

I wouldnt say its anything over the top.

I had never heard of the GTR edition either until i came across mine. I have never seen another GTr on the roads in over 1 year of having mine.

I think in black it looks way nicer than the silver model.

Come on guys dont be too harsh here about the little motor!

Im into modifying, but modifying doesnt always mean chav!

Ye,

I was thinking of an induction kit.

But as its only a 1.25 i wasnt too sure about a noteable diffference.

Also i have got a question for any Fiesta owner. I think it is the same in all mk6 Fiestas.

But, underneath my accelerator there is a bracket and when you floor it, you touch this bracket. If this bracket was removed, i would have a good inch more of accelerator pedal travel, which hopefully would make a difference in my small car!

I was wondering if this bracket has any purpose and if i could remove it?

Ah ok, one of my mates was trying to persuade me to grind it down

Not into the GTR tbh, exhaust and spoiler are a bit OTT, apart from that its pretty nice
Is it just styling changes on them?

Its alright!

As far as im aware, Adam08, the GTR is just styling changes.

Momo 17" Rims with low profiles.

Twin Exhaust

GTR Body Kit

The spoiler is pretty huge, but i think it makes it unique!

Havent seen a fiesta GTR in black around where i live at all ever, so its quite nice having a fairly rare Ford.

I dont know if they were limited edition or not, but it might have been.

Its only a 1.25 engine, but as im only 17, for insurance

Yh that spoiler is huge How about getting on of these?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Roof-spoiler-Ford-...=item2a060d0308

A bit smaller and not quite the same as an one, it looks like they have made it from the original concept pic for the or something

I think a third party company made a few of the GTR kits and sold them with the fiestas. I think for people who cant afford the Zetec-S or ST it is a good buy.

I have the same LED lights as you do and trust me, they can be a right pain in the arse but the look great at night!

Insurance is a nightmare for people just passing their test, my partner drives the ST and it costs us £225 fully comp, i want her on her own insurance so bought her a ford ka paying £265 tpft, went to get her a sport ka and her insurance company won't insure it till she has 2 years ncd, mad, she's 30 years old and been driving for 4 years and also done her pass plus.

I had a right nightmare the exhaust on my car meant I was getting quotes of £4k+
Only admiral would do it at a price I could afford...was only £100 extra last year!

Hmmm wonder how feasible it would be to do Duncan
Then if anyone makes a claim declare the company bankrupt....

It would be ideal. But it may look a bit suspicious when Duncan's Insurance Mk2 registers for business...
