My beloved car will have to depart at the end of the summer due to money
Need to start saving up the bucks so what to do next?
Don't want something completely boring just something a bit more economical
Looking at fez ZS diesel mk 6, focus diesel mk1 and 2
Not sure what else I should be considering?
Budget of about £6k but will consider something even at £3k (doesn't all have to be spent)
Open to suggestions, anyone? (Doesnt have to be fraud I just like them)

MK1.5 TDCi Sport Focus is a really good car.

The 1.6 TDCi in the Fiesta is a bit sluggish but in a MKII Focus it has the better turbo (in 109PS form) but still has £35 tax.

You should also be able to pick up a Focus II 2.0 TDCi for that much money as well

Can reccomend the diesel focus. The 1.8 is a strong motor but make sure you get the 115 version.

There is the limited edition one that i think that dave mentioned. Is slightly lowered and a 3 door. With a re-map would make a great car and very cheap to run

Yea but I'd have to drive a saxo....

Plus it wouldn't be as quick as a diesel focus which would probably do more MPG
And if I crashed in a saxo I would die!

Is that the sport version Micky?

Yes it is Adam. Where the tdci wins, is in gear acceleration and as i showed with mine (same engine as the sport). Felt faster than my petrol zs when accelerating in 3rd and even on the 0-60 at ford fair it was quicker than my zs.

Will pm you the autotrader link for that one so you can find out more

2 wheel drive, stainless exhaust, piper x induction kit, power boost valve, 136 bhp at the wheels about 160 at flywheel, lowered, uprated brakes, 66,000 miles service history, owned for the last eight years. MPG 30+ steady away, 6 months tax and just gone through the MOT with no advisories.

The only reason its for sale is to buy vicky something a bit better for her own insurance, she uses the ST but has to start somewhere to gain her own no claims discount, the little ka i bought her has been ok for the past 8 month, but i only paid £500 for it and the bodywork is not the best, the RS is a no no for insurance for someone with no no claims, i mean if her insurance company wont insure a sport ka for her what chance the escort.
If i had to the st could be sold, i could keep the RS and buy vicky something and pocket some cash, I have had a lot of people wanting to swap and px for the RS but they have been cars that i can not insure for vicky.
Ideally a mk6 1.4 fiesta or newer ford ka would be her choice, the insurance for the 1.4 fez was about £340 tpft, not to bad.

I would say the ST is better at handling, but standard the cars have similar performance 0-60, 8.3 secs. max speed 133 mph. 0-100, 22.2 secs.
You have to remember that the escort is 15 years old. The gearbox is stronger than the STs, MTX75 box is good. Chain driven cams, discs alround, I bought a 4x4 version before the 2 wheel drive and sold it with 129,000 miles on the clock and all it cost me was new diff bearings, I bought a 2 wheel drive car because my cousin used to rally one in grp n, and apart from bottom arms the car never broke. He still rallies an escort, today i popped over the garage to see our ian and the car was there for a service,

Proper rally car, 200bhp through the rear wheels, 2.0 16 valve on throttle boddies and cams, any one want to sponsor it. Pics aint to good only had my phone.

Adam can't you insure the RS under classic policy now?

That's a nice car. Apart from the wheels. Where's the originals gone Tez?

The photo Micky put up is the Sport yes.

Never had the originals Dave, thats the way it was when i bought it, the wheels are Antera's, the spare is an original and you can pick them up for £80-100 a set now, thimg was they were the same wheels as some lesser models which i think ford got wrong, my 4x4 had originals and the car does feel quicker with the 15' wheels, think they were 195/50/15 tyres.

Theres lots of things with classic insurance though...some general rules...
Not your primary car
Up to 6000miles
Kept locked up
Own another car that is insured in your name (motobike and public tranport for commuting dont count)
And loads of other weird and wonderful things lik £15K+

Obviously these are just general and companies will have their own policies
