Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone knew how many miles a Ford Fiesta 1.25 litre can do once the orange fuel light comes on?

I do not have a trip computer in my car, so I have no way of knowing how many miles my car can do once the fuel light comes on.

If anyone has any info on this subject, that would be great.

Thanks,

Ben

think the general warning is the 50 mile mark... Drive everywhere in 5th and you'll squeeze out a few more!

Yeh I'd say so. I always seemed to do about 40 miles in my Ka once the light came on

I don't really trust the trip anyway, I just fill up when I'm near a petrol station

Ye, I just wanted to know what I could do when the light comes on, just incase.

Driving to work everyday is an 18 mile round trip and i think that the fuel light will come on soon, so do you reckon driving to work 1 more time with fuel light on should be ok? Then just fill up the next morning

I would have thought you'd be fine, but if it was me I'd fill up as soon as possible. There's no point risking it

Ye, its not like you would save money by driving for longer, because the petrol will just cost more when you fill up again.

I'll prob wait for the light to come on and drive one more day before filling up, whichever is sooner.

Also, just wondered if you drove your car hard or not, as its an ST?

The light comes on at 50 miles to empty when you have a fuel computer. Zero miles still leaves 2 litres in tank.
The light comes on when there is 8 litres of fuel in the tank when you don't have a fuel computer. You can do 50 miles with the light on, I have heard stories of people doing 80miles till the engine dies. Stick a gallon of petrol in the boot for when you run out and see how far you can go from when the light comes on.

Duncan P - haha! the micras!

Dave T ST - I filled up last night after the fuel light came on, but there is a few problems with having a 1.25:

- You have to drive it quite hard if you want to even so much as keep up with traffic.

- Because of driving it hard sometimes and having a large sub that fills my boot, my MPG isnt too great.

- This week im trying to change gear at 3,000 revs and see what happens to the MPG, hopefully it should be better.

Thanks for all your help on this though guys!

I know im safe for a bit now when my fuel light comes on!!

I never known anyone having to drive a 1.25 hard to keep up with traffic.
Are you sure it's not poorly?

TBH I never had to drive my old 1.3 mk4 hard to keep up with traffic....just chose to

So shouldn't think you would have to drive that hard to keep up, considering alot of cars you'll be following will be 1.2s anyway

Its only done 17k, its all mechanically sound.

I probably exaggerated a bit when i said you had to drive ot hard to keep up with traffic, it just seems a big sluggish driving up hills and so on.

Probably because its a 1.2 i just found it a bit slow, it doesnt have any problems keeping up speed though

Same as myself when I had my Mk5 Fiesta Zetec 1.25 - it seemed to go a heck of a lot quicker than by rights it should have.

Was it modified in any way?

Engine mods or any visual mods?

Ditto, I had a 56 plate 1.25 fiesta, it was faster than any 1.4 I had a dabble with! (corsa's, clio's and a honda jazz! lol)

my 2006 1.25 was pretty nippy. mpg was crap tho. full tank only got me 200miles if i was lucky and i didnt drive it hard. swapped for a clio 182 in the end which cost less to run on fuel. even my st now gives me more miles to the tank what my 1.25 ever did

i got an '07 1.25 fiesta style climate a couple of days ago. ace car, but confused by this trip computer...

i had an '00 clio which would do roughly 85 miles to a tenner with the current fuel prices.

i had 15 miles left in the tank when i filled it up at bp. i put £15 in so i would have expected that to add around 125-130 miles into my tank (and subsequently to the figure in the tank at that point, bringing it up to 145 miles ish)...i turned the key and the trip comp stated i had 115 miles in the tank overall....£15 for 100 miles?!

also i am driving smoothly and carefully. im not caning it about at all, yet the miles on the trip comp just drop. i find that on country roads im losing about 2-3 miles of estimated fuel per mile...so i hope the comment about the car running on 0 for millions of years is the case.

is this just technology that doesnt work? or is my little fiesta being a bit too thirsty? would it be worth getting it looked at?

i know its hardly the worst story of fuel consumption in the world either. some guy on VTR forums had a saxo which was costing him £30 for 60 miles. poor poor bastard...

Should getting into the high 30s to 40mpg depending on how heavy footed you are etc
Work it out manually over a full tank if you can

Theres a couple of guys on here with 1.25s hopefully they will be along shortly...

1. 115 isnt really that far away from the 125 or so that you thought it would be so I wouldn't really worry.
2. Was the car parked on a slight slope or hill before you turned the key? I always have an extra 15 miles when I start mine up in the morning and it faces down a small slope. Just a thought...

i drive a 1.25 and i do a 14 mile round trip to work, i did it twice before i got petrol and i didnt exactly drive slow either, i understand what you mean about there been no power in these cars, you have to put your foot flat to the floor and its not till after about 3,500rpm that my car starts to show any sighns of moving quickly i can't wait to get an
