The current recommended fee by the DoT is £54.85, however individual garages can charge less than this (but not more).

I pay £30 for an MOT, as for a cut in the sidewall of your tyre, yes it could fail an MOT test, if the tyre hits something in the road like a pothole it will put pressure on the weakest part of the tyre and could blow out.

do you reckon its advisable to get a new tyre or to see what they say when it goes in for it? is there anyway it can be repaired?

you cant repair it if its near or on the sidewall, go and ask a tyre specialist if your unsure, do it before the test cos if it fails you will only have to take it back for a re test unless they do it there and then.

would it make much of a difference to the car if i had 3 p zero's on it coz the other 3 are fine and then had a different make for the one that needs replacing?

the others have still got loads of tread on. It says serious cuts fail on the mot but would a gouge about 10mm by 10mm and a couple of mill deep count as a serious cut?
