HHHEEELLLPPP!!!

Hey guys, I'm busy developing a Intranet site for my company, but am a bit stuck. I've noticed on some sites that when you open an Acrobat file it embeds it into Internet Explorer. It looks like a Acrobat file, but opens in IE and then gives you a few Acrobat options on top (like "save as", etc.).

I would like to do the same thing with our ISO documentation but don't have a clue how it's done. Can any of you guys give me some help? I'd really appreciate it.

Thanx

You need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Writer, or a similar PDF generation application.

You need to convert your document to a PDF file and then just upload it. When you link to any PDF document from Internet Explorer, it will automatically open it in embedded mode rather than opening the full Acrobat Reader.

Exactly as Dave says.

As an example: The link below is to a pdf document. If you click it (and you have Adobe acrobat reader installed on your machine) it will load up and open the file within IE.
http://www.carlocks.com/pdf/us_ford.pdf

If you don't then the reader is freely available from here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

So the only thing to worry about is wether the terminals that are going to be used to view the documents have the reader installed.

Guys, me again...

I need the help of an extremely clever individual...

Couldn't find one, so I thought I'd ask you guys...

After the help you gave me earlier I finished the site and everyone was very impressed (considering I've never done this before), but now we need to change something again. I've got a couple of books which I used to get my site as far as it is, but can't find what I'm looking for. Please give me a hand guys...

The current code for opening a document in the same window is as follows.

<li><h5><a href="file://WTRNT01/DEPARTMENTS/ISO/PUBLISHED/ISO9002/WORKINSTRUCTIONS/ENVIRONMENTAL/AWVWI010.pdf" title="AWV WI 010 ISSUE 02">Sampling Procedure for Sumps & Wetlands</h5></li>
</a>

How would I change this code to open the same document in a new browser window???

I'd really appreciate your help on this guys.

Thanx
Ben

<li><h5><a target="_blank" href="file://WTRNT01/DEPARTMENTS/ISO/PUBLISHED/ISO9002/WORKINSTRUCTIONS/ENVIRONMENTAL/AWVWI010.pdf" title="AWV WI 010 ISSUE 02">Sampling Procedure for Sumps & Wetlands</h5></li>
</a>

It's a good idea to close tags in the same order you opened them and to avoid overlapping tags, so I'd change it slightly to:

<li><h5><a target="_blank" href="file://WTRNT01/DEPARTMENTS/ISO/PUBLISHED/ISO9002/WORKINSTRUCTIONS/ENVIRONMENTAL/AWVWI010.pdf" title="AWV WI 010 ISSUE 02">Sampling Procedure for Sumps & Wetlands</a></h5></li>

Tested it and it works. I can't believe it's that simple

Thanx for the help, next time you're in South Africa give me a call and I'll take you out for a drink.
