do i keep my ST???

WTF??? i love my ST to bits and love being part of this!
however, im having to save really hard to get a mortgage and also getting married july 2012.

the St costs me £1,100 a year for insurance with all mods declared and i fill her up every week with petrol costing me £160 a month.

i always wanted an ST and have mothered mine ever since i got it. altho i can get a 58/09 1.6 Diesel Focus which is only £550 for insurance and i wouldnt have to fill up so much and it would pretty much be a direct swop give or take a few hundred.

WTF do i do??? aaarrrggghhh i want to keep the ST for ever!!! i have money to keep the car going but i always spend money on it and i need to save for the future!!

but i like to drive!! like properly drive! not poodle in a 1.6 diesel.. but that makes sence to cut back!

o dear! CONFUSED.COM

well you already know your 2 options, either keep it and spend loads on fuel, or sell to save money. firslty i think the st is a great car and would not get rid of mine for a long time, unless upgrading to the focus st (or RS, in my dreams). i was gifted my deposit for my mortgage so got lucky, and also bought the st after getting the house. if i had to make the decision i would be in the same frame of mind.
now without knowing your income i couldnt really recomend what is best for you (and you dont want to share that on here really) but for me, i would of looked elswhere to save before selling the car. if you downsize your car, youll probably end up ragging the bollocks out of it, just because your used to more power.
there are plenty of ways to save money, its all just change of habbit. your first port of call would be to stop modding. this will save you loads. change where you food shop to a lower brand supermarket. dont go clothes shopping, make do with what you have got. if your renting a house, MOVE BACK TO YOUR PARENTS (if it is an option). renting is dead money in my eyes and i know some people cant afford not to rent but you will save loads. why not look into shared ownerships also, i think the government is running a scheme to help first time buyers get on the market by taking on a percentage of your mortgage. i know my sister looked into it last year but not sure if there still doing it.
hope any of this helps at all.

but if things go for the worst and you do sell the car, and you put it back to standard, keep me inmind for the
-omp front strut brace
-blue roose hose kit
-lowering springs

good luck buddy and hope it all works out

The question is... are you a car enthusist? Is your car partly your hobby? If the answer to this is yes... then keep it... you'll only feel glum driving the focus and wish to have your back.

My 1.8 Focus is a great car... christ it's reliable and after 110,000miles it's a work horse. The is just on another level... it just makes you feel good. Just like your does.

At the end of the day mate, its just a CAR, if its the main reason that you can't get a place with ur partner then its a no brainer isn't it, it'll have to go!!

Get rid, save some £££'s on a decent diesel, which btw will probably suprise you and sort ur wedding and house out.

You can always get a nicer car later on

Do the right thing by ur missus

just thoroughly test drive the diesel and make sure you enjoy driving it and can get on with the car as well otherwise see if you can maybe stretch to a 1.8 diesel version if you feel that you might miss the bit of extra grunt. my focus lasted a long time and the only reason i had to get rid of it was coz i had to keep taking it to the garage for repairs as the miles piled up but it never left me stranded at the roadside the whole time i owned. They are great cars to own

if it's a choice between a car and a family, i'd try to make whatever possible to save them altogether but at the end of the day if the worse comes to the worse, the car would go ... =(

the car is my hobby as you can see lol and i am a real car enthusist and i love every aspect of my car!

the only thing is the little costs that end up being big
insurance is £550 less a year
tax is £90 not £175
i worked out i would save around £800 a year in fuel
so its basically like £1500 more to run my car a year than a 1.6 diesel.

i havent been asked to sell the car by the misses and infact she loves it and always wants to drive it... altho i say no (shes not very good lol)

im still in a debating frame of mind at the mo!

and Harper i like how you get in there stealing my mods lol haha

If your partner is having trouble with the then she will have even more trouble with a focus as it's a much bigger drive.

You've worked all the costs out well imo.

Are you ever going to have two cars?

If i owned the and drove that as my only car it would cost me £8000 a year to run.

Owning my Silver focus on its own for the total miles would cost me £4000 a year.

Owning both of them and doing more miles in the silver one... including insurance/tax/fuel/mot costs me 1/2 way at £6000.

Maybe look to split miles on a smaller car? Thats if you are looking to ever get two?

lol no its just that she is a bad driver so i prefer her not to drive it... otherwise i would have no alloys left as they would be left on the curb lol plus she has ditched two cars, one time rolling it on its side before it went in the ditch!

she can stick to the 1.2 clio now lol

at one point this year i owned 3 cars, a saxo to run around in, an ep3 civic type r and my ST, sold the Type r coz i didnt use it, and sold the saxo because it felt so unsafe compared to the ST, brakes were made of paper and the car made of cardboard lol.

ah i see what you mean, or probably sell your st, and buy a cheaper one, it might not be as new or in as good condition but still ull have an ST and a couple of grand left in your back pocket, id say your fez would probably sell for around £7000-£8000 considaring the spec, comdition and miles, and ive seen STs on ebay and autotrader for around £5000 for an alright one

What would your insurance be like if you removed all the modifications? I am in a similar situation and i've decided to keep batteling on with the ST despite the theiving chavs that can't keep their mits off.

I thought about getting a cheap second motor that does 60mpg ish like an aigo and taxing/insuring the ST in the summer months and then the other car for 6 months in the winter. Perhaps a multicar policy with admiral might work.
