Hi all

First off, this is my first post here although I've been reading the forums for quite a while!

Something quite unfortunate happened the other night, basically I managed to drive over a wood boring drillbit, which at first I thought had just punctured my tyre, but on closer inspection its actually gone straight through the alloy aswell! Leaving a nice 6mil clean hole through my wheel.

Just wondering, does anyone think this could be repaired? Or should I just get a new wheel? I'll upload a pic of the damage shortly!

welcome to the site!!!

nasty!!! if it was me.. i would get a new alloy and tyre. im not sure i would trust it being repaired (if thats possible) if the repair isnt good quality it could end up getting the hole again and then the tyre would deflate etc etc. but depends on what you think is best and money etc.

say hello in n00b section and also get some pics of the car up!!

we love a good picture!!!

Thanks guys for the welcome, I will get some pics up of the car and introduce myself!

Think my gut feeling is to get a new wheel and tyre, although I should point out that the repair is all free so far. Just a bit gutting to think I'll probably have to spend money that would be going on a CAIS will now be spent on buying a wheel thats not even an aftermarket one! And a tyre thats 2 months old

i have welded many alloy wheels and if this has punctured through the alloy, it is still do-able. where do you live

Morecambe, Lancs, used to live in Sheffield though as it happens!

The tyre is off now getting a normal puncture repair, just waiting for the wheel to get mended. It is just a 6 mil puncture through the alloy ....

the tire looks saveable as its right in the middle, but i would be unsure about the wheel

perfectly safe to weld up alloys, as long as you understand the properties of them and are handy at welding. you can only use a tig welder on them tho. ive repaired bent ones, cracked ones, ones with holes in when there suspension has snapped and the spring went straight into the alloy.
