Why is the site being improved?... it is awesome how it is. I'm a STOC member too but rarely go there because of all the carp you have to get through, this site is rapid, why the change?

i think its a good idea as a trial period see what comes of it

Out of interest how many people have actually donated?

I don't think it's a great idea but i'm glad you have given a months notice before doing it to get some views on the idea.

I'm not remotely inclined to make a donation and will go elsewhere if I am 'locked out' of the forum. Shame though, I really like this place but I read quite a lot of forums and have never been effectively shunned for not donating. What donation is acceptable anyway, if I donate 1p I doubt I will get access, where is the cutoff, 45p? 82p? a quid?

I personally think it's a good idea and I'll happily donate again to help fund changes. I can see me using this forum for a while yet

Just to give you guys an explination as I believe it may clear a few things up.

The board is licenced in USD and comes to $139 to up keep per year.

The site over the last 2 years has thrown our bandwidth allowance through the roof and it's costing £23 per month for hosting fees.

The address also costs to maintain.

Coupled with all this the new equipment needed for 2011 shows is going to cost a considerable amount of cash.

I am working on really making this site push forwards and i'm going to be using 100's of hours of my own time (free of charge, no I won't be using donations) to code out, test and support the site along with brand new features that people have been requesting for years now.

I know that Chris and Kev will also be helping as much as they can and I'm very greatful for this.

The payment goes through Paypal and for every payment made. They take 20p + 3.4% of the charge. Please bare this in mind when donating.

If you really feel that you don't wish to contribute, that is fine. Just remember that other sites charge membership per year for access. This site has never done that. Think of it like buying a beer at the pub... you come on here because you enjoy it... why not keep enjoying it and give a donation to help the site stay online.

its a community here and the banter plus the info that is available is great. i got rid of my nearly 2yrs ago and still come on here daily.
