Hi Becky, welcome to the site

As Gareth says we're a friendly bunch, I'm sure you'll be made to feel very welcome. The ST will definetely be worth the wait, just cut down on non-essentials like food and christmas presents

Chris

Hi Becky, I'd also like an ST but at 18 the insurance makes it out of the question for me.

will you be getting a brand new facelift ST?

I could save a lot of money by getting insured through my parents but i think that if you can't afford the insurance yourself you shouldnt be driving the car

You also don't build up any no claims, and technically it's illegal.

I can see it being illegal if you are the registered owner of the car. If you parents are then I cant see there being a problem. Im going to start building my own NCB next year. I wanted to this year but I still have to pay off my car and cant afford the premium! only working part time! Unfortunatley this means I have to wait for atleast two years untill I can comfortably afford the insurance on a more powerful car, even though I long for one! Oh well will give me time to save up for something I really want.

The insurance for my car is more than a little car understandably but it would have cost me £1*** pounds to insure a crappy nova when i was driving this car.

Also, I could afford the car but now im at university i cant, so do you still feel the same way???

Not aslong as they give you permission everytime and know where your going!!!

You have that spot on... save up!!! It will cost a small fortune the first year you insure but then it will probably 1/2 and you will be back to normal!!!

Even though im at Uni, im being very careful with my cash, im having a great time, going out but also making sure im not spending more than my budget!!!

I have a plan to save enough cash to put down a fairly big chunk on the car I long for at the end of the 3rd year of Uni... A Focus

As far as i know its illegal if you drive the car more than the insurance holder, no expert but i just think its better to get my own insurance.

I understand that if you only work part time money is gonna be an issue. thats partly why i have chosen to make my previous part time job full time since doing my A levels. Its not a great wage but its giving me the chance to save quite a bit of money up towards a car and insurance

I had the choice...

Go to work full time and have the Focus I want and be able to afford it...

or

Go to Uni... keep my Foci for a few years, try and save cash inbetween and then buy it at the end of the 3 years...

I have chose option 2 as it is the passage I must take in life!!! We are all different!!!

Most people love uni but i have never intended to go to uni and after doing my A levels i was sure i didnt want to go. I need to get myself a career rather than just a job that i have at the minute but i atleast want to have a car first so i dont have to limit my job searching to places on bus routes!

Like I say *technically* it is illegal because you are the main driver (person who drive the car the most) but your insurance policy would state your parent as the main driver, so technically its insurance fraud (only if you make a claim). You'd never get found out anyway, so it's not a problem.

Indeed, thats perfectly acceptable m8tey, I know i could not do without my car when I get home... its just too hard to get the bus everywhere... its easy down here as I can walk everywhere, its all in close proximity!!!

You can get yourself a good career without uni, its just sometimes a little easier when u do have a degree. Keep going!!!

Were all here for the same reason, we all love cars... Good Luck with finding yours

Focus ey? Very nice, Id love the feeling of owning a true specimen of ford rally breeding like that! Every time I see one (which is rare) It always appears alot more special than other cars like the R32 and Clio V6 etc. I'd sooner splash the cash on a older than a megane 225 or Golf Mk5 GTi.

DavidChief, Past Admin of this site and Owner of FordSites.com and FordDesktops.com used to have a Focus and he used to take me out in it every week, used to drive to his work and then he would drive to football in it... what an experience!!! I loved that car, was gutted the day he sold it for the BMW 130i but that also is a very nice car, just doesn't have that spirit about it!!!

Bingo, I'm currently looking for work, and didn't go to Uni. Most of the decent jobs seem to be offered only to graduates. Luckily the industry I've got all my experience in (5 years, I feel so old), is very specific and jobs are generally not offed to grads, as they wouldn't know where to start. But trying to change industry is a real nightmare. Uni isn't for every1 mate, do whatever you feel is best for you, just thought I'd give my opinion.

Cheers, I'm gonna have to change my job soon cos at the min i'm doing about 40hrs a week at Sainsbury's and its driving me mad!

like you say though there are a lot of jobs about where you don't have to be a graduate and i'm sure 1 of them must suit me

Yes mate you def will find one, just be prepared to start at the bottom rung. Then like I have you can work your way up (hard work & dedication required) and by the time you're in your early / mid 20's you should be well on your way down your chosen career path.
