with a decat you have to swap to a cat when it comes mot time or it fails on emissions and i think you can get a fine as well for having a decat

decat is just a pipe to replace the Cat, big increase in power but illegal and noisier, also will mess up your hego sensors so you need to bypass them to I think, lot of hassle. Cat back is full exhaust from the cat back ie retain your existing cat. Only a full system from manifold to tailpipe will give some genuine extra BHP, any other parts not too noticeable other than better sound.
K&N first then full system.

So if I got a decent cat back exhaust and a good 4-1 manifold then I can just replace them parts on a standard cat and it would still increase some decent BHP? Or can I get a decent full system with for race cat or something? Thanks for the help.

yes and get a manifold that comes with a flexi as the ford one is restrictive, most well known makes come with one anyway, so yes you can leave your cat in place or get a full system with a sports cat which is legal that would be the best way to go, will have better torque moreso than bhp. K&N and full system perhaps around 160-170bhp.

how far are you wanting to get with bhp, with bolt on mods you can get up to the 200 mark, or you could go for the supercharger and get 300+

Depends on what BHP you want and what dollar you have to spend

as i said in your welcome post i have K&N, manifold, decat and cat back and got 173bhp a few months ago.

the mountune cat back will give you a little extra power and a nice sound, but to get real power output you need to change the manifold and get a sports cat or decat pipe, then its cams and inlet change to go about 180bhp upto 200.

mountune are pricy but they are also very reliable and good at what they do!

from standard to 200bhp your looking at a few thousand... for probably another couple thousand more you could get a supercharger kit fitted and get over 300bhp its how far you want to go and how deep your pockets are

i would love to supercharge but i am happy with how my car is on the road and on the track, just need to get it mapped to get full potential out of my mods

sorry this is dragging on now, but you also said about my brakes, they are bigger than the standard ones and stop much better

also my car was totally standard when i got it

Thanks for all the replays, yeah i just want to get to 200BHP fast then i think ill be happy then i just want to get the best out of my ST.

So Dan is a decat illegal like if you get caught? becuase i would much rather have something legal on because of my carrer. but i guess then i will lose out on performance? and is there any good place to get things or should i just search the net and have a look.

A de-cat will fail your MOT due to emissions, and if police were to ever stop you to do a random spot check you may be in trouble there too. Best bet is to get a sports cat but they are literally 4 times the price (for the Milltek anyway). I am saving for a sports cat as it eliminates the need to swap it over for an MOT, and doesn't mean you have a light on your dash (until you get it bypassed) and there won't be much lost in regards to power, possibly 4 or 5 bhp? It's your call

if your aim is 200bhp then to save money and messing about I would simply do it in one single modification and save up and have it all done in one go, better deal then on labour too:-

1) Mountune Stage 3 200bhp (fitted by Ford or go to Mountune)

2) buy all parts from Jamsport who will fit and remap 200bhp

yeah it is illegal, i just cant afford a sports cat right now, when i can afford one i will get one

the sports cat you may lose 1 or 2bhp from what you will get with a decat but its not bad!

if you are looking for 200bhp you would be better off going down to mountune and getting their kit!

Ive looked into Mountune but it didnt say they had a stage 3. How much is stage 3 i know stage 2 is 1800.
I really wanted to do Mountune but i didnt think i could do anything else if i every wanted to get more BHP. thats why i was going to buy parts and do it that way.

I expect that stage 3 is around £3000 as the inlet sells separately for about £900

I think the CAIS is included in what ever kit you buy, providing you are still standard

You can only go S3 from standard or if you already have S2, thus from S2 you buy the new Inlet, 60mm throttle body and map update, the info on this is on MT website inlet group buy offer from £949 - £1149, fitting extra.
So, add S2 £1800 and fitting to that for an idea

200bhp without internals is the most you can get from the engine. If you want to go beyond this it won't matter that you have an MT kit as you would be moving onto custom mapping to add an SC or internals etc. What will matter is you will already have high end components fitted ready for further state of tune. Imagine adding a jamsport SC and custom mapping to S3 and you will be at 250bhp, 2.5 SC and 300+.

Owww i understand, so really it possiable to go as far as your pocket is deep. I didnt know about superchargers, but ive just been reading about it now on Jamsport. much £££ needed though but worth it for the power im guessing.
Is it possiable to upgrade the SC or do you just pay full price for the next one replace the old ones?

Mountune dont do a supercharger for the , you have to go to Jamsport to get the kit fitted. Once you're hitting that kind of power you'll need to do other mods including new diff, clutch, brakes and gear box. The cost soon mounts up!

Yeah i knew the SC was from Jam. Jesus really i didnt know you could need all that. I think ill be very happy sticking to close to 200.
So could anyone help with a estimate of BHP with these items fitted.
K&N 57i,
Full milltek system (4-1manifold, flexi, sports cat, back cat)
Cosworth cams,
Cosworth inlet,
60mm Throttle body,
30mm lowering springs.
Cheers guys for the help haha hate to be a pain

What else could you add to reach close to 200? Custom remap meaning moving all my componants around under the bonnet?

Noooo somewhere like jamsport can put your car on a rolling road and customise the ecu for performance, economy etc. You can gain a few extra bhp by doing this but it can be expensive so it's not really worth doing until you've finished modding unless you have deep pockets

Jamsport would map that at 197-199bhp those are all the parts you would need.

Several on here with SC's kaxe is running 299bhp and think Seedy is over 300bhp.
yes, you would have to sell your SC unit and buy the bigger one, there are other bits you can improve, ask those guys as there in the know.

i had the full milltek system on my ST, 4-1 manifold plus de-cat and what a noise! sounded awesome tearing along the road!
best thing to do if your not fussed about the standard system is to cut the standard system down as its all one piece and get a pipe reducer to fit the aftermarket system.
means you can fit the standard cat for MOT time, police will issue you with a ticket if they catch you running a de-cat, will more than likely make you get a garage to check its been chaged and stamp the ticket you get.

the system and K&N is a good start, plenty things you can do to mod the engine! its a strong reliable engine that fords lumped in it!

you could always get a mazda mps engine! positive there identical! plus if i remember right its a 2.3 turbo!
