Thanks all
This is what is required for the assessment day:
"The tests will be conducted by a member of the Recruitment Team and will comprise of the
following:
1. Dictation test
A passage will be played to candidates twice. You will be expected to write down accurately a word-for-word transcript of what is said by the speaker. Spelling and grammar will be examined as well as accuracy.
2. Multi-choice Paper
The paper comprises of four sections: (a) basic numeracy (b) map reading (c) infection control in the LAS and (d) the highway-code. Each section consists of ten questions. The total amount of time given for this part of the assessment is forty minutes. The information taken from the LAS infection control manual enclosed must be studied carefully as preparation for the first part of the paper. Candidates may also wish to study a copy of the highway-code and/or the DSA “official theory test for car drivers” (available in bookshops) as preparation for the Highway Code questions which cover the topics of alertness, attitude, safety margins and rules of the road. The numeracy questions test the areas of basic arithmetic and arithmetical symbols, volumes and mass, graphs, percentages and concentrations, flow rates and simple calculations required for administering medication. The map reading questions will be based on an area of London and candidates will need to be able to follow directions, read map co-ordinates, understand common symbols and know the points of the compass.
3. Lifting Assessment
You will then have a lifting assessment, which will be taken under instruction of a member of the Training Department. Although no preparation is necessary you and a partner will be required to lift and carry a 45kg mannequin in a wheelchair. You may wish to improve your strength and stamina beforehand. Please ensure that you wear or bring with you suitable (flat, non-slip) footwear to participate in the lifting activity. You should also be dressed in smart comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely. If you have any back problems/ back injury or any reason why lifting might be a problem, then please discuss with your doctor before attending.
We expect the assessment process to last around 90 minutes"
