Hi gang,

As title, just joined as am thinking about upgrading current Fiesta to an this spring.

I got a Zetec Blue 1.25 in June '08 for the 80 mile round trip to work as they do 40-45mpg (ish). Had it two and a half years and its a nice little car but it is tediously slow. I know you don't buy an for great mpg and I know I'm sounding like an old git, but is mid 30's mpg achievable on a run?

Scott's kindly mentioned insurance / tyres etc as larger costs to consider, but is there anything else to be concerned about? Servicing intervals the same as my car?

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome You cant go wrong with the . I had a coolant leak in mine (long story and my fault) so I drove like a granny all the way home to keep the engine cool and managed 50mpg. This will not happen again but I regularly get over 35. Tax is £200, service every 12,500 miles. Now is a great time to be buying as everyone seems to be selling and dropping prices. Enjoy the forum mate and feel free to ask any more questions

three years faultless from new, okay some sticking calipers and usual broken seat catch but that is it, 30mph+ always shows on my 8mile 30mph zone drive.

Hi there and welcome to the site.

As has been said, you should achieve mid 30's mpg without too much trouble particularly if you're going on a long journey at constant speeds.

Guys. Thanks for the warm welcome.

I took the Zetec Blue on the "Options" scheme, which with the 18,000 miles a year I do, worked out at £180 a month. Fuel is about £50 a week and I service it every 9 months as per recommended schedule.

So, its a fair chunk of change for something that won't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

My basic enginerring & physics knowledge would suggest that I'd be using much smaller throttle openings to keep up with the flow of traffic as I do in the 1.25, so it would be working more efficiently, be less stressed and as mentioned by a poster above, return decent mpg?

Then when I'm bored with driving like a nun, I can spank the nuts off it and have some fun.

Looking at prices for weedy 1.25 Fiestas like mine with a good spec, they are not too disimilar to s of a year old or so? Some of the "For Sale" threads here suggest s are not flying out the door?

Quite fancy Panther Black or Silver.

ST will do high 40's on motorway, the key is not to go above 60mph.

Blimey .... and I guess you give it some beans from time to time?

Also, high 40's when cruising along sounds pretty impressive.

Thanks.
