Thinking about getting myself a 1.6 diesel one of these in the next couple of months. Does anyone know how well they run or any common problems? How cheap could i pick up a second hand one?

A couple of lads around here have them and say they ain't bad cars, one of them has his remapped and says it pulls quite well, the bluefin remap gives the car an extra 28bhp and 58nm torque, the car is 90bhp standard, ford figures for fuel economy are URBAN 54.3 mpg, EXTRA URBAN 72.4 mpg, COMBINED 64.2 mpg, TOP SPEED 112 mph, 0-60 11.2 sec, dont know what it will be remapped. Insurance should be a lot cheaper as i think its only in group 6.
The only thing my cousin says is injectors are expensive to replace, he does a lot of injector seals on diesels but thats diesels in general, just make sure filters and oil are changed regular.
As for price they seem to hold the money well, some cost more than the ST, but these sort of cars with cheap tax and insurance + fuel economy are what a lot of people are after, especially young drivers.

Better than the ST 60-80 then after remap?

My dad has had a Zetec-S TDCi for the last three and a half years and never had any faults with it. It's not as quick as my ST but is still pretty nifty.

Am I right in thinking there is a 1.4 or is that not a zetec s? What's the fuel like on it, is it as good as the figures claim?

1.4 is just a standard diesel whereas the zetec S can be had in petrol or diesel

Is the 1.4 a turbo as well? How good was your Dad's 1.6 tdci zetec s in the snow we've had?

The 1.4 Duratorqu TDCI is an 8 valve engine with 68 bhp at 4000 rpm and 160 nm torque at 2000 rpm. Fuel consumption 48.7 mpg urban, 74.3 extra urban and 62.8 mpg combined insurance group 4 and £30 a year road tax.
The 1.6 Duratorq has a 16 valve engine and an intercooler 90bhp at 4000 rpm and 204 nm torque at 1750 rpm.

It gets above 50 mpg most of the time. With regards to the recent weather, the only places it's struggled in and had to turn round have been the same places I've had to!

Is the 1.4 as economical as the 1.6?

1.6cc fuel economy are URBAN 54.3 mpg, EXTRA URBAN 72.4 mpg, COMBINED 64.2 mpg.
1.4cc Fuel consumption URBAN 48.7 mpg , EXTRA URBAN 74.3 and COMBINED 62.8 mpg.
Not much in it to be honest but 1.6 seems to be a couple of mpg better off.

Thanks guys..does anyone know much about the Mondeo 2.0 TDCi? Are these looking as economical as the Fiesta? Seems like you can pick up a high mileage one for very cheap.??
