I dunno if it's just me (probably is) but the car just seems to fall apart as soon as theres a sign of snow (not in a literal sense, I don't mean snow flakes are made of lumps of hard metal!). The car just doesn't want to grip whatsoever, and I understand I prob need winter tyres, but I imagine 70% of other road users don't use them either and they seem to tootle along just fine!

I don't use 1st gear, I only use slight force on the pedals when going uphill and yet I'm the one who gets stuck with the wheels spinning madly going nowhere!!!

It makes me sad

All down to tyres my friend. Good tyres = massive improvement of performance in all areas of the car
My tyres are needing to be renewed and I was losing a lot of grip this time round in the snow but last time we had snow I had brand new michelins all around and was laughing!

Yeah I suppose you're right.

I'm just gonna wait until I get my new alloys and slap some Toyo Proxies on there, but by that time winter shall prob be loooooong gone! haha

But to be fair it's not like i've got minimal tread on the tyres, they've still got a lot left in them, but I've got my 25,000 miles service coming up so will see what they say then.

Just a quick quesiton while I think about it, is a 25,000 miles service a major service?

dont accelerate if you can help it
i pull off just using the clutch and just use tick over if the road is really bad
not had a single problem yet (touchwood)

No problems in the ST, the RS has been pretty good in the snow two, brand new tyres helps that though

No, the first major service is after either 37,500 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first.

Get some proper winter tires and all your problems are solved

I would never drive only one mile in snow without them

my toyos are far better in cold weather than P1, probably not much difference when were talking deep snow, I also don't keep an eye on the pressures in winter which helps with a little better grip, in summer I will put them where they should be.

Theres really no need for them over here atm, for the two weeks of snow we get its just not worth it

Not true. Winter tyres perform better in cold weather, they're not by any means just for snow - the threshold that gets bantered about is when the weather goes below 7degC. I got hold of a set of 15inch alloys and some part worn winter tyres this winter and am now a convert. Although admittedly the car doesn't look great with the alloys but I couldn't source any 205/40R17 or even 205/45R17 winter tyres at the time.
