First road car delivered by the new Ford TeamRS.
SO why is it that Team RS always have the Focus RS and ST220 pictured next to the logo then?

Showcase for the new TeamRS definition of the Sports Technologies theme.
So what's next?

Ford then unveiled a car that, until the launch of the new Fiesta ST, remained the most powerful Fiesta of them all. This was the Fiesta RS Turbo of 1990. Thanks to a turbocharged version of the 1.6 CVH engine, it developed 133bhp (135 PS) and had 'genuinely impressive' performance. However, by common consent, it was demanding to drive, with all the inherent problems of a turbocharged engine – turbo lag, aggressive power delivery and torque steer.
I guess then that if the RS does get a reprieve it is safe to say it won't be a turbo'd unit.

Interesting, very interesting.

I always thought a turbo was unlikely.

The reason TeamRS are pictured with the Focus RS and the ST220 is that the members of the department did develop these cars in one way or another, but for their previous work areas, such as SVE, before TeamRS was formed.

The ST now becomes the most powerful Fiesta of all time, but the FRST retains it's mantle of the fastest Fiesta of all time

A turbo would have never have happened for the concept RS as it was based on the NA jWRC car...

Hi Gareth, and welcome to the site.

Thanks for your answer.

Following on with some thoughts of my own, I just think that these days, safety and Euro regs are so stringent that power and pace of cars 10 years their junior is quite an unfair comparison due to the additional weight being carried around. I think the ST does a great job considering what it has to adhere to.

Welcome Gaz. Hopefully there will be another turbo Ford at some point in the future.

Ford will always make turbo cars, they are just Diesels though!

Hugh - you're exactly right - modern cars have very strict regulations to comply to, hence they'll always be a certain weight - the superlight models of 10/15 years ago just can't happen now as they're not safe enough. The ST Fiesta is fantasic - it handles wonderfully, and has a decent kick of power

David - the next performance turbo Ford (petrol not diesel!! ) is not far off, should be early 2006ish, with details being released soon.

Interesting info Gaz. Shame it won't have a Cosworth badge on the back.

Well the one i'm refering to certainly wouldn't, but as for the one you're talking about - true, it is a shame, but times move on - it's only a badge, as long as the machine is the same product at the end of the day it doesn't matter too much - we've more than enough in house skill to build fast cars without outside help

2006 is far too far away IMHO. Being late to the party is becoming a very unfortunate trait.
Still at least they have it in the pipeline, now if only Jaguar would put out the X-Type R ....

Also Cosworth is more than a badge to me - it's also 6 nice but now useless URL's!

Hmmm... depends what you think 2006 is too far away for though....

Better late and perfect than rushed and poor

That is true, I am assuming it will be the Focus ST.

Even if it's not, my comment stems from the fact that the basic 'L' version of the Focus was used at launch and has left virtually everyone criticising the styling.
I have however seen spyshots of a mildly kitted Focus that looked the mutts nuts and shows what a sound basis the car is for something rather special. This is what should've been shown - something that gets everyone sitting forward in their chairs.
