I'm fitting my mud flaps now are they meant to stick out this much or be snug up against the arch

fairly snug if you bend the brackets to fit better, mine are.

Mine are snug against the arch. Try re-bending the bracket. Cant really see it mattering too much though

finally got them fitted
in my opinion the worst thing in the world to fit epically the front ones
lets hope they stay on
i dont trust them clips atall
