Hello all, I've been wanting a Fiesta ST for a while now and I am now finally in a financial position to go for the purchase lol. I've found the one I want and have already checked the insurence and tax and all looks good I had my 1st test drive this week and am very much looking forward to the experiance. Have been reading around lately and hearing a lot of bad things about the gear boxes blowing up on a regular basis........... Am I being totally paranoid and worrying about something that will never happen? or is it something that you will forever live in fear with when driving wondering when it will happen? Some people have mentioned a 'Quaife' whatever that is? Price? how it's fitted? It's a diff isn't it lol total noob here. Thank you in advance and I look forward to your experiance. P.s My name is Luke, I live in the South of England and I'm 21.

Welcome to the forum Where abouts in the south??
A couple of people on here have experienced gearbox problems, but I never worried about it (you could do the same with any car)
Someone else will be able to explain the quaife better than I can

Thanks for the quick reply, yeah that's what I thought, you get problems with any car's so it's no point worrying. Motor is 20k miles so fairly new and should be reliable, I don't do track days or drag.
I live in Basingstoke/Hampshire.

welcome along bud! just drive along properly and boot it everynow and again mine has always been a bit ropey going into reverse but this is a common thing with the ST's. Had it for three years and iv only broken a seat catch!

welcome, very few major problems with the ST, check it all over thoroughly, gearbox is one of the best, very smooth changes, clutch should be light and no dragging, reverse does clunk but put it into 3rd then reverse and it won't. Make sure it drives straight and brakes well, test them, don't be afraid to do a full hard stop, if you do an emergency stop all the hazards will come on ! Give it some revs see if it picks up well, should pull from low down too even in fifth.
