Get this...I've just received our AA Breakdown renewal quote for Me and the Mrs.

We have a joint 'personal' cover, that means that whatever car we are in, driving it or just a passenger and that car breaks down, it's covered.

Roadside, Home start, relay, Stay mobile (replacement car for 72 hours, overnight accomodation etc).

The quote was for £182.84

Well, I went on the RAC website, and for the same cover it was £108.84 (Have a look)

On the phone to the AA straight away.

This was the convo....

"Is that correct, £182.84"?

"Yes sir, the payment is due by the end of the Month"

"Well in that case could i cancel the policy as i have had a quote for the same cover off the RAC for £108.84"

"Oh, hold the line please sir".....comes back after a couple of mins, "We can offer you a special discount reducing your cover to £127.00"

"Well thats good, but £108.84 is still cheaper, so can i cancel the policy please"!!!....."Of course sir please hold the line".

She comes back after another 2 mins,

"Good news sir, we have looked into your policy and can actually offer you the same policy for £106.84, would you like to continue as a member for that quote"?

"Erm, o.k then thanks"

Job done, one phone call saving £76.00

Nice work I've found insurance companies to be the same. They just charge what they want if you're already with them because some people cant be bothered to do a little research and will just pay up! Surprised you had to haggle twice though considering the RAC price was originally cheaper

Yes, i was thinking this.

I have a credit card that offers free travel insurance and stuff, and i'm sure that it offers free breakdown cover, but i think it's just basic roadside cover. I'll have to look into this.

im with natwest, pay £12 a month and get phone insurance, sat nav cover, travel insurance for anyone registered at my address wether they bank with them or not, breakdown cover with recovery to a garage in a 10mile radius for free or pay the extra distance and go where i want, if i find anything i want to buy from a retailer like a tv or pc, i get the code from it, phone up natwest and they get me a discount on it, and you also get your own personal phone banking service. theres also emergancy money which if im out and ive lost my bank card or run out of money and need to get home, i phone them up, they give me a code, i go to a cash machine and type it in and £50 pops out without using my card

i think all you have to do is quote the bank account number off the card if there's anything you need them for and they do it off of that. I had to use them once when i had my gold account and just gave them my account number and they came out to my work and there was no problems. we've got the platinum account with home start

Well done on getting it knocked down Kev.

But... and this is a tip for everyone, if you've got a Tesco Clubcard, try looking at getting RAC cover through that. We got the full package - roadside, recovery, at home, and onward travel - for £60 of Tesco vouchers last time, which is much cheaper than buying it direct.

the platinum one you get everything breakdown wise and the gold one you have to be at least a quarter of a mile from home before they come out so as your normal account is a platinum one you'll get everything that come with the platinum one
