Ok, i've still got the standard Ford headunit in (4500 i think off the top of my head??) only had the car since september. Today i've been listening to a cd, gone to eject it, and nothing happens. It fails to eject the cd, and displays CD Error on the display....

SO guess where the cars going to be going

They might aswell fix some other problems whilst they're at it aswell.

So it's not only the 6006 unit that does that then. I dont think the dealership can fix the radio they will prob send it away to be repaired.

Sorry to hear tha Marc. Quite a few people have had probs with their 6006 units with this happenning (though fortunately not myself touchwood).

It wasn't a CD-R or CD-RW you had in at the time by chance was it? Its just that thats mainly (but not always) when people have had this problem before.

Are the 4500 and the 6006 made by the same company?

It was indeed a CD-R

What sort of turnaround time do you think its likely to be? if they send it away.

I couldn't say 100% but given that they are very similar units, I think the main difference is that the 4500 is a single CD player, I would imagine that it, like the 6006, will be made by Visteon.

I'd expect to be waiting weeks as it will probably be sent back to the manufacturer (visteon in the case of the 6006, not sure who makes the 4500)

what a pain in the arse that is!!

Would ford leave me with the car to drive still? Presumably just leaving a nice empty space?

Could be quite a while. I know that in a few cases where they've had to order a replacement unit, people have waited ages, in one case as long as five weeks!!

No reason why they shouldn't. Its not a problem with the car itself, even if it is a pain not having a stereo in.

Hi, replacing the unit with a new one (6006) aint worth it, they rip up yr dash and the prob with the 6006 is a design flaw in the eject mech (I've had original & CDR's jam), trust me, rather unjam the unit yrself (and use CDR's rather cos u scratch the jammed CD while unjamming it), or just put in an after market unit and get the adaptor...cheers

actually i dont know what made me do it, but i just went out to get a cd out of the car, and had an idea to try and eject the jammed cd, and would you believe it. The bloody thing ejected first time!

At least i can listen to a different cd now wayhey!
How easy is it to replace the front casing to change the stereo, and can i get a pre-made replacement, that only has space for one stereo or something similar to save me butchering the current one?

I believe you can get the sat nav facia put in, but Chris got his changed and had an audio bloke do a really good job of it another way, see this thread:
