if you declare it off the road its ok to keep it

i would have been as only one of my ST's was insured at any time, i just swoped the car on the policy over several times. but i sold it now so .... nope!

At the moment the law states that you're breaking the law if you're driving a car without being insured to drive it. It's changing so that it will be illegal to own a car without insurance - even if it's being kept on private land and not being driven - unless it's been declared as SORN.

bloke down the road has 3 Evo's prep'd for rallying they are not regestered on the road or even insured by any bog standard insurance companies he never uses them on the road and uses heavy loader to transport them to events.

he will have to pay government to keep them? what has society come to flipping mega pissed off with how this country is slowly but surely turning into.

The new rule is nothing new. It's simply tracking down people who don't insure their cars but continue to drive them on the road. Which is illegal already.

Ok... so if you don't want to drive your car on the road... you don't insure it. Why would you keep it taxed? You wouldn't, you'd declaire it SORN (like i have with my ). This means you are legal.

The moment you want to drive it on the road you'll need to get temp/full insurance and tax your car. How is this any different to how things are already?

If you drive on the road, you mot, tax and insure.

If you don't drive on the road then you don't need an mot, tax or insurance.

my issue is Scotty, i wanna insure my car every so often.... to drive it on the road it cant be sorn, that means i have to tax it... i cant tax it for less than 6 months so that means i cant temp insure my car as if its not insured and is taxed im breaking the law

gonna mean i have to insure it for 6 months minimum, if thats the case i may aswell have it taxed and insured all the time makes no difference

But how many people actually do that Dan? I mean 1 in a million people will do that with their car so thats why that 'problem' is being ignored

Thing is this was introduced to the world in 2004 by a clever guy which I've forgotten his name i will find it he's German but he suggested this idea.

All cars come manufactured with a CPU which can be scanned by police each unique to a car.

The CPU is updated via 3G and if you for example purchase insurance the car is automatically updated via the CPU and the car when scanned shows a valid policy from start to finish, this also applies when cancelling it's automatically removed from the vehicle making scans or stop checks more efficient telling the police there and then if insurance is valid.

Same applies for Tax If these cars do not show up with either upon scan the police can stop the car call the centre of operations with this CPU software and check on a mirrored server which data is sent immediately by insurance or DVLA making it a there and then fine and car being taken off the road.

Instead of this new law in which, involves the injections of cash which is temporary but will make a significant profit from interest for insurance companies before the consumer changes his policy again.

week 1 the payment has made from interest 0.004% interest
week 2 the payment has made interest .0.005% interest

now times that by 6 million drivers doing the same thing.

it's a scam however we could see a fixed lower price for all policy users as the margin to lending and borrowing will be covered by the interest in which they can make.
