Didn't know whether to post here or in the sticker thread so I've posted here! My (still to arrive) has the optional privacy glass. I'm very interested in the site stickers but am slightly concerned that people won't be able to see them due to my blacked-out windows. Will this be the case?

I'm no expert cos i havent seen either the stickers or the windows! But i can't imagine the windows will be that dark so maybe the stickers will just look a bit more dull than in cars with standard windows, Hope my inexpert opinion is of some use

I still think they will be visible, but yes will look darker i suspect, they are quite silver so they are a good colour for the darker window. There are pics of the stickers in the threads, should give you an idea of the brightness.

when you have the privacy glass put on the car (tints), the dealership is actually breaking the law as the glass that comes out the factory is the legal limit, which is 35%, this is only on the front windows as you can have whatever you like on the back windows. when you get your invoice for the windows it will prob have on it from the B-pillar back so then it cant come back on them.

Heres a close-up shot Of Fezzys which has the privacy glass fitted. I'm sure you'll agree that the stickers will still be very visible.

As Craig David might say, can I get a rewind? Hold up nicki, are you trying to say the privacy glass that Ford offer as an optional extra is illegal? I hate to point this out but how on earth could Ford do this? They couldnt?

The tints that are standard on the "normal" ST windows are the legal limit. The "privacy" tint is only put on the rear windows (rear sides & the back window itself) and takes them to the legal limit. Thats why the privacy glass is only ever on the rear windows. I cant believe you think the privacy glass they put on is illegal. How do you think Ford get away with it? Its because it isnt ??

Bo Selecta at it's best.

Very true Pink, Ford Privacy glass is only ever on the rear windows (no legal limit), however I thought Nicki might have been talking about aftermarket tints. (reading it again can be taken either way)

BTW, Ben's car will be in Germany which prob has different laws

This is taken from a pdf file I found on the net from VOSA (Vehicle & Operators Services Agency)

"If you're selling a vehicle with extra tinting applied to the windscreen or front windows - The vehicle may now have glass that is darker than permitted by Construction & Use regulations, in which case the vehicle should not be sold"

And the limits are: "Motor vehicles first used after April 1985 - the windscreen must let through 75% of light and the side windows must allow 70% of light through"

All of this means Ford could not, in no way whatsoever, sell a single ST with privacy glass and yet they do. Its because it applied to the rear windows and not the fronts. Amen. *nods*

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/publications/tinted%20windows%20information.pdf

These stats come from a police force website:

Front Windscreen: 25% (they must let 75% light through)
Front Windows (i.e drivers and passengers): 30% (70% light must get through)
All other windows – No restriction.

I see your POV Gareth but with this:

I'd say she was talking specifically about the privacy glass option Ford dealerships are offering on STs

All joking aside though, its good to know exactly what the law regarding tints are

I was a bit confused about that post as well. It got me thinking whether I was about to take delivery of an illegal car. Obviously not. My car will be in Germany yeah, I'm not sure on their laws over here but they sell the ST here with privacy glass as an option so its got to be legal I guess. Its probably an EU law anyway.

Yeah, it was the dealership part that I overlooked

Ben as it's the privacy glass from Ford you'll be fine, as Pink has pointed out.

Just to clear everything up.

Ford only supply tints to the rear windows and boot window on the privacy glass option.

The front windows and windscreen are already tinted to the normal limit (25 and 30%).

Hope this helps everyone

Back to the point, you will be able to see the stickers though it!!!
