Didn't know whether to post here or in the sticker thread so I've posted here! My (still to arrive) has the optional privacy glass. I'm very interested in the site stickers but am slightly concerned that people won't be able to see them due to my blacked-out windows. Will this be the case?

I'm no expert cos i havent seen either the stickers or the windows! But i can't imagine the windows will be that dark so maybe the stickers will just look a bit more dull than in cars with standard windows, Hope my inexpert opinion is of some use

I still think they will be visible, but yes will look darker i suspect, they are quite silver so they are a good colour for the darker window. There are pics of the stickers in the threads, should give you an idea of the brightness.

when you have the privacy glass put on the car (tints), the dealership is actually breaking the law as the glass that comes out the factory is the legal limit, which is 35%, this is only on the front windows as you can have whatever you like on the back windows. when you get your invoice for the windows it will prob have on it from the B-pillar back so then it cant come back on them.

Heres a close-up shot Of Fezzys which has the privacy glass fitted. I'm sure you'll agree that the stickers will still be very visible.

As Craig David might say, can I get a rewind? Hold up nicki, are you trying to say the privacy glass that Ford offer as an optional extra is illegal? I hate to point this out but how on earth could Ford do this? They couldnt?

The tints that are standard on the "normal" ST windows are the legal limit. The "privacy" tint is only put on the rear windows (rear sides & the back window itself) and takes them to the legal limit. Thats why the privacy glass is only ever on the rear windows. I cant believe you think the privacy glass they put on is illegal. How do you think Ford get away with it? Its because it isnt ??

Bo Selecta at it's best.

Very true Pink, Ford Privacy glass is only ever on the rear windows (no legal limit), however I thought Nicki might have been talking about aftermarket tints. (reading it again can be taken either way)

BTW, Ben's car will be in Germany which prob has different laws

This is taken from a pdf file I found on the net from VOSA (Vehicle & Operators Services Agency)

"If you're selling a vehicle with extra tinting applied to the windscreen or front windows - The vehicle may now have glass that is darker than permitted by Construction & Use regulations, in which case the vehicle should not be sold"

And the limits are: "Motor vehicles first used after April 1985 - the windscreen must let through 75% of light and the side windows must allow 70% of light through"

All of this means Ford could not, in no way whatsoever, sell a single ST with privacy glass and yet they do. Its because it applied to the rear windows and not the fronts. Amen. *nods*

http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/publications/tinted%20windows%20information.pdf

These stats come from a police force website:

Front Windscreen: 25% (they must let 75% light through)
Front Windows (i.e drivers and passengers): 30% (70% light must get through)
All other windows – No restriction.

I see your POV Gareth but with this:

Quote:

"when you have the privacy glass put on the car (tints), the dealership is actually breaking the law"

I'd say she was talking specifically about the privacy glass option Ford dealerships are offering on STs

All joking aside though, its good to know exactly what the law regarding tints are

I was a bit confused about that post as well. It got me thinking whether I was about to take delivery of an illegal car. Obviously not. My car will be in Germany yeah, I'm not sure on their laws over here but they sell the ST here with privacy glass as an option so its got to be legal I guess. Its probably an EU law anyway.

Ben as it's the privacy glass from Ford you'll be fine, as Pink has pointed out.

Just to clear everything up.

Ford only supply tints to the rear windows and boot window on the privacy glass option.

The front windows and windscreen are already tinted to the normal limit (25 and 30%).

Hope this helps everyone

Back to the point, you will be able to see the stickers though it!!!

I had my tints fitted after I got the car. However, on a recent meet I parked next to someone who had the Ford factory fitted privacy glass on theirs. The tint level was about the same. (pic of mine below. I only had the back 3 of mine tinted, all the fronts left the same as they are already at the legal limit as mentioned already.

As for window stickers, you are best to go for external ones.

Cheers for all the advice guys I've ordered myself two stickers! They're excellent value so if they can't be seen through the glass its just one of those things, but i really hope they can
Everyone else should be ordering them now too, only £2.29 for 2! Go for it!

Just for example... I have to pay £20 a year to join the FFOC.co.uk for my Focus (I Paid for loads of years in one go, i dont use it anymore really)... my full devotion is to this site (obviously) and i dont have any more spare time with Uni etc anyway.

All I get from that cash is access to the forum (free for you lot on here) and some BIG white stickers for the car, lucky enough i managed to get old of my little silver onces at a show once which was better.

For around £2 i would think these would have flown out by now... were not making any cash out of it and we've put alot of effort and money into getting them!!! Over £100 to give people an idea

Once pics go up with them in members cars (and mine) im sure alot more orders will be placed

Yeh your right, these are cheap as chips...I dont have an ST either but bought some to show my support. Come on whats just over 2 quid, you'll hardly miss it!

Even if you dont intend to use them, then you could as least give a coupla quid to the guys. We're lucky we dont have to pay to get access to this site, like many other places (especially since webhosting etc, plus the time and effort isnt free - these guys arent making anything from it, just making a fun place for us to get together etc)

So show your support - buy some stickers!! Plus they look kool

Thanks for the comments Marc, Ben and Gareth.

I feel that the prices are VERY low and they just cannot be argued with at all, I know that I could not order one sticker from anywhere else for this price!! Besides which they look REALLY smart.

When you've got yours in guys try and get some shots up if you can (as will I this weekend).

How I haven't realised you guys have stickers for sale, I have no idea - been on the forums for a good while now!

Will most likely place an order tomorrow, one for either side of the back windows. My car isn't an ST, but you guys have been very helpful, and the stickers look the doggies danglies. Very nice indeed.

I'm getting the back three windows tinted 30% - let's hope the stickers stay visible. Oh and another thing - is the writing printed out onto a square of sticky plastic, yeah? Just don't want an usnightly rectangular outline in the window, if you know what I mean? Having said that, they look great in the pictures!

andy.

Probably best not to get your car until you've passed your test anyways. It would be annoying for you if you had it sitting there knowing you couldn't go off by yourself in it.

Good luck with your next test, and hope you get your z-s it would be a great first car.

yay! finally got m stickers today. I think our BFPO post system is being a bit slow cos of xmas but they are here now. You know I was asking about the privacy glass and it being a possible problem. Well unfortunately it is. I'm really pissed off cos I wanted them to be in my car. The only way you can see them is if you look really closely at the back windows and then you notice they are there. Anyone who didn't know I had them in would probably not even notice. I'm really annoyed. I'm defo gonna keep them tho, I might stick them to my PC instead. Shame cos they look fantastic. Well done guys!

In the next order we may be able to get some external sticking so privacy glass members can still have the stickers, my current ones are outside and have lasted 2 years and are still perfect... unsure as to taking them off or leaving them... will have to see when i get home and put the FordFiestaST.co.uk ones in

Update on the state of play with my site stickers. Because of my privacy glass being so dark (darker than my folks X5s which I was suprised at) I've stuck one of them on my laptop so people can still see it when I go places with my lappy and the other one is on my desktop in my room so that all my mates can see it. I'm disappointed that they weren't totally visible on the car, I even asked my bro for his opinion and he said I either have them so they can be seen 100% or don't put them on. Which kind of makes sense in a way But they'll still be noticed on my laptop

My car garage has stuck a big sticker on the tailgate window with their name on it. It's not very obvious at all but its a pure white sticker with dark blue writing so if you look closely you can see it. But you have to get realy close to see what it says. Fortunately they have stuck it right at the top of the window so it's hidden even more by the spoiler! Don't know why they feel the need to put it on there in the first place.
