After spraying my front grille surround yesterday I decided I would fit it today.

Whilst that was off I decided to change the position of my K&N.
On the ZS it is mounted at the back of the engine according to K&N instructions.

I have moved it to the front where it belongs and having the grille surround off helped me have access to place the cold air feed.



Its just held in place with tie wraps for now until I can find something better.
I also placed the original airbox back just for looks cause I feel the engine bay was bare without it.

I had to take a break half way through as I took a chunk out of my thumb, sliced it open and lost part of the nail.


Next weekend I have a long 4 day weekend as we have friday and monday off for easter. So hopefully next weekend I can get my next job done...

I need to get a yellow tin of that stuff so maybe I can get to the lime green I want =)

Well after the drive to work today the car seems much quieter. There is no more loud induction roar, just a subtle noise from up front.
I can't imagine the noise will have changed so much just by moving the K&N further forward, can it? Or will it be the fact that I put the standard airbox back on and that is muffling the sound from the engine?

Anyway it does seem a bit more responsive compared to the K&N being in the back...but I miss the sound

I have a ZS so at the rear I have drums...
Drums should not be painted bright colours IMO so I'll do them black

Nice work, sounds a bit odd that moving the K&N upfront would make that much diffrence to the 'roar' we all love.............

Plus having it at the back of the engine bay, how does any air get to it

I had fitted the cold air pipe to the original part at the front and routed it over the engine




Now its much better its at the front. Will get air from the front and from the cold air feed.

I'll have a go at removing the airbox for on the way home to see if that is muffling the sound

Micky (had a Zetec S) and I from experience of reading about James K33VRN's gorgeous modded Zetec S (pushing nearly/ or the same torque as me! ) believe it's best to leave off a K&N cone filter and just use a K&N panel filter for gains but if you see good responses then leave it on!

Well just before setting off home after work I took the airbox off.
The induction sound was back but still just slightly less than originally.
I guess the airbox was definitely muffling the sound from the engine bay.
So its staying off

Oh good ...any good gains? More responsive?

it looks much better, doesnt seem to be much difference between when it was at the back and now though. maybe a bit more responsive

Got one coat on the front calipers this morning.
Gonna go put another coat on now cause it should be dry enough to cover by now.
Also gonna try put a coat on the drums too

2nd coat on the calipers complete and 1st coat on the drums also done
will go out in about 2 hours to see how the calipers are drying.
will give the drums their second coat then and if the calipers need it, a third for them

I'm now relaxing with a couple of beers watching The Big Bang Theory after finishing the calipers and drums.

The finish is not perfect when you look up close but from a distance I'm well pleased with the result...

Nice work on painting up those calipers i still need to do this! And a very suspicious looking package from dmb.... wonder what could be hiding in there?! Youll need to put pics up after fitp because sadly im not going
