Hey all,

Not an ST problem but Ford all the same ... our other car (1.7 02 Puma) cut out in our car park and wouldn't start back up - ticking over but that was it. Had a mobile mechanic out who was in a rush so didn't get too involved but this is what we found out.

New battery fitted as last one was only putting out 8v (£65?! For a car that still won't start?!), fuel lines tested and working, fuses checked and okay, timing chain fine, used both keys to try (chip issue?) but no spark when tested...

Any ideas as to what to try or anyone in Essex feeling helpful please let us know, now facing a week wait to get it into a garage before we even find out what's wrong with it!

Thanks Lee, but it only did 15 miles after a £20 top-up so sadly not that...

Was going to say leads or coil pack/distributor cap

Are you getting a spark on any of the plugs?

check all the earth connections, coil pack as said, immobiliser working properly, crank sensor or other sensor fault.

Yes check coil pack first then it may be either cam position sensors or crank position sensor (though if the crank position sensor had gone it wouldn't start at all)

It could also be (hope not) that the cat has collapsed inside as that causes the car to idle OK but not rev as it can't breathe
