Im wanting a bog standered one... after this one im scared of owning one thats been ragged and mis treated like this one was, became obvious as i started working on the car... my fault for not inspecting it better though...

I would like a facelift ST more then anything and considering on saving as much as i can for the ST500 although would anyone agree its not worth it?

my ultimate goal would be a ZS celebration (Green one) with an ST engine in

You could do it yourself, but you'd need to put aside around a month (realistically) of decent time to do it properly. You're going to need to be able to weld (to build things like engine mounts, etc which will be different from your engine at the moment) and will need a reasonable understanding of how the ST and your car are dismantled and reassembled.

The advantage of doing it is you could end up with a very clean engine bay by hiding all the wiring and building very minimalistic engine mounts at low cost by doing it all yourself.

IMO it's only worth attempting if you have the time and skills to get it right without resorting to help from a garage. A garage is going to cost you an absolute fortune.

Just to give you a little bit of food for thought, here is my car on Monday and Tuesday after Ford Fair. Engine was practically out:

Yep, roose hoses (coolant, ancillary and heater matrix - pretty expensive load of kit brand new) all in red as you can see. I already have a samco hose in red for my pipercross induction.

I also fit my milltek 4-1 exhaust manifold and relocated the battery to the boot so that i've got plenty of room. And put one of those little breather filters on.

Spent a good while tidying up all the wiring too which is a disgrace as standard from Ford.

The finished result is:

All that I need to do now is clean it up as it's a bit dusty from the workshop. Nothing too difficult though.

Edit: I should add that one of my good friends from Retrospeedshop in Birmingham gave me a hand with parts of it. He is extremely knowledgeable and did things such as building the boot battery tray. Some very neat welding and fabrication went on with it. I'll be taking it off over the weekend if the weather clears up to paint it red.

Sorry for the thread hijack!

You know what you can do now that you have relocated the battery to the boot...
GET. A. TURBO!
All the custom manifolds and Turbos I've seen for the mk6 bend round to where the battery sits, so you sir are half way there!

Yeah, we did spend a while discussing the idea of a remote turbo which would be located towards the back of the car with all boost pipes etc running back to the front of the car. Fabricated piping with fins attached would allow cooling to be sufficient to negate the need for an intercooler.

Would be a big project, but definitely interesting.

erm the engine mounts are the same for both engines.... mount same places too... its a drop out and drop back in thing... the Engine wiring loom would need changing but i would littrally drop my fez out completley and reassemble from the ST... i dont think it would be as hard as it sounds... the interior can come out in bassically an hour and a half i would say.... just a case of knowing where bits came from and where they went...

with a decent amount of time spent on it, i would say a week and a half... seeing as you can do an engine swap in a day on these...

Apologies, I assumed with it being a totally different engine the mounts would be different. Good knowledge then and i've learned something new.

In that case you would be sorted. As long as you have the mechanical knowledge and some form of common sense ( ) I think you would be fine.

The helpful bit will be having the ST to copy. Try not to rip the ST to shreds then reassemble but instead do it in little stages so you can remember each bit. That would be my approach anyway.

Where abouts are you going to be doing this?
