Hi all,

I've got a new gear knob and leather gaitor to fit onto my I've found the previous How To thread by Chris, but my main problem seems to be getting the bottom of the gaitor to fit inside the console (the round plastic bit at the bottom of the rubber gaitor). We tried at Ford Fair and it just wouldn't stay in place. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get it to stay in place? Do I use blue tac? It is annoying me now as can't figure out how to do it.

Many thanks.

Steph

I remember mine was too big to fit the ring, so I cut bits of the gaitor off.
Then I stapled it where I could to keep it in place.

What you want to do is get your old rubber one and cut say 2cm from the bottom round in a circle, giving you a rubber circle.
Then attach the bottom of your leather one to this (either sew or I used double sided tape) then the rubber holds it all neatly in place

Works like a charm and has lasted me over 18 months

Yeah, you want to take your used rubber ring and slowly, sensually, run your scissors around the base a few centimetres from the bottom. If you're having trouble, get a friend to help. This will give you all the support you need and allow you to do a good job....wait what!!!!??

Ha.....do what I said above and post pics. Staple your new leather gaitor to this ring.

As for the gear knob, just twist it hard. Use 2 hands if need be.

You can keep the knob surely? The gaitor is only about £7 off ebay, may as well just buy a new one when you move onto a new car for the hassle i'd have thought?
Or get another rubber one from a scrappy?
