Just going back to the reasons for the early deadline...
As I said earlier in the thread, my personal preferance would have been to have a late deadline as in previous years in order to give the maximum chance for people to go. This hasn't been a problem in the past as clubs have just been allocated space largely at random.
This year, they're allocated on a first come first served basis from the centre of the track outwards. And the problem with this is that there's a big rush from all the clubs to get booked. As Kenny pointed out, some have booked months ago, and having looked into things, it appears that there are a large number of clubs that are booking at the end of April.
The second problem is that the large gravelled area is no longer in use for clubs due to complaints previously. In some ways this is good, as we've been put there in the past and it's not nice to get there having cleaned your car all nice and then find you get sprayed with stones as you're driving onto the stand. But the flipside of this is that there's also less stand available in the circuit. Having looked into things, the impression I've been given is that if we leave things much later than early to mid-may then there's a chance we may not get a stand at all.
That being the case, then given the amount of people wanting an early booking I felt the correct approach would be to set the deadline so that we get in before the rush at the end of April. If there's a demand for me to extend the deadline by a couple of weeks longer than I have, then I can do that but I don't want to risk extending it any further than that.
This is the first year that Ford Fair has been organised in this way, and I think I've learnt a lessson for next year and will take bookings for both this and FITP from the turn of the year next time. Unfortunately I didn't realise the exact situation with regards to having to rush to get the stand booked until a couple of days ago, and I have to hold my hands up and apologise for not investigating this sooner.
