wasnt the other map for when you were at 195bhp with the exhaust on?

surely if you only have a few bits on now and are sitting at about 170 its gonna be a bit rich?

Shame its all of direct injection :/ a friend of mine has his pug 306 diesel converted to run on biofuel and with an uprated turbo he can see 170bhp! When he goes in for his mot just winds the fuel regulator in and goes through with hardly any emission!

Car failed again...

According to Jamsport it shouldn't be the map as they have used it on several cars and they've all passed. So i had my mate at Ford hook it up on their pc, and it said i had a broken lambda sensor, so that got replaced, but seems like it still didn't help much...

CO (which should be around 0.3%) started at around 6%, but kept going up the longer he kept the rpm going (it almost went to 8% !)

Lambda reading (should be around 1.0) was fine on idle, but when testing at 3000rpm it went down to 0.8

I'm pretty clueless what's causing this, so any help is appreciated.

the lamba reading suggests it begins to run lean..

the CO can be caused by the running lean and/or the map at that spot...

if you changed the lamba it may take awhile to learn... reset the ecu and go for a drive if you can.

Thanks for the tips, but i doubt the CAT is gone, because it's only used for the few weeks before and after the MOT, so it shouldn't have done more than 10k miles

As an mot tester I can inform as best I know but lambda is gonna be a fault due to a leaky exhaust, check the exhaust for any blows, normally will be sooted up, this will cause lambda faults and the co2 fault is down the the fuel air mixture which, in this , is controlled by the ecu and the readings it gets from the various sensors on the engine!
As simple as the air measured going into the cylinder vs the fuel quantity added = the amount of pedal u use!!

Therefore if these sensors are working correctly I suggest checking air filter and spark plugs, oil change and a bit of fuel additive give the car a nice run but find somewhere to open it up at long periods of time full throttle in 3rd say mayb even 2nd try not to run it on the limiter tho!!!

Then find a quite spot and sit the car at 2500rpm occassionally blipping the throttle onto the limiter and holding it for a second or two the let it return to idle before raising it back to 2500 rpm repeat this 3 or 4 times then hold the revs at around 2500 for 5 min to Cool off!! All this effort helps get the car engine and caralytic converter red hot and almost self clean!!! Do this within 10min of an emission check!!Even book it into a garage just for an emission test only, surely someone can help??

ask them to clarity the exhaust readings have stabilised before starting the emissions test!!!! Not many testers do this but they should check readings have stopped fluctuating before testing!!! A lot of older vehicles fail due to this and may be an incorrect failure!!!

Best bet if its less than 12 month old phone the company you brought it from and demand a replacement as a failure to reach emission levels !! Note this does not include lambda readings as these are not affected by the cat!!

Part of it has been sorted.
There seemed to be a leak in the exhaust somewhere at the backbox so that has been welded. Haven't had it back on the machine again to check the changes because the engine light is still coming on (some kind of lambda fault) so we're going to check out all the lambda wiring and hopefully find some kind of fault there.
Things have been pushed back a bit due to the unavailability of the mechanic i normally use (for several reasons) but we should be working on it this afternoon.
