I keep getting the "forum problems" section highlighted saying there are new messages when there clearly aren't! It's happening on two computers so it can't be my settings. And it doesn't do it for the other sections just "forum problems"! is anyone else getting this?

Yeah this seems to be a problem thats cropping up with a few people (inc me) Its not just limited to forum problems, for me it happens in any of the sections, and it is annoying. Seems like a cookie problem but its not it must be a server side problem. Not sure what we can do about it but when the team has a bit more time i'm sure it will be properly looked at,

Chris

it only seems to happen on a new day... cos I went away for a while and just came back and it had sorted itself... It's no biggie so there's no rush!

Yep, its a prob I have that crops up randomly as well where posts I've read come up as unread when I log back in. It is on our list of things to look into, but like Chris says just bare with us for a while on this one.

Thanks

Add's to list.

If it helps... this happens to me also sometimes.

I have been trying to figure out what exactly trigers it and how it comes about but i've not found the solution or concluded the issue yet.

It is to do with cookies and logging in, closing the screen etc but just trying to figure out the exact combination.

Please bare with us, any input from anyone else who has noticed the same would be useful also.

Regards,

Scotty (Admin)

Having a good look around and asking people their problems. It seems to be a server cookie problem which the company who provide the forum software would have to sort. I'll keep looking into it.

I have the same problem as well but I find that if I go to my Home and select the Mark all as read, then I don't have the problem.

Most people don't like doing that as they cannot see what posts they have not read yet.

The best way is just to log out and then re-log in!!!

Yep that often sorts it out. Alternatively wait till you've read all the posts you know are new before marking all as read.

That could be down to the way your system is set-up at work - I know on ours it wipes all cookies each time you log off.

Lol, it is one of those things that I find is a little iritating at times rather than annoying. But not a major problem really. As Kris said above its easy enough to know whats been read, so the easiest thing is simply to mark all as read once you've seen everything else.

If we're able to find a solution then we will, but for the present time then things will have to stay as they are, so just bare with us please.

Thanks
ChrisC

With everyones problems, solutions its hard to pinpoint the problem.

I was focusing on the server being the problem but now with peoples work systems handing cookies differently, it seems it could be a problem with different computers and systems...

As Chris said if we route the problem everyone will be informed straight away.

Things are being looked at to try and solve this, but its just taking a bit of time at the minute. Also, there are a few other things with regards to the site being looked at behind the scenes at the moment, and its a case of trying to juggle everything on our list of jobs to do on here with work/uni for the team. Things will hopefully happen, but just bare with us please for the present moment. As soon as we have an update we will let everyone know!!

Regards
ChrisC

Nope sorry, nothing more to add at the minute. It is quite a complicated issue, and I've got to be honest it might be a while before we do manage to sort things out. If its sorted then don't worry, it WILL be posted up here to let everyone know. For the time being, the simplest thing is just to read through the posts that you know you haven't read, and then go to your homepage and mark all as read.

Thanks,
ChrisC
