Hey guys, been in my new job now nearly 2 months (Two months on the 28th) but I haven't signed a contract or anything, I haven't seen any kind of policies and I don't know what to do. I don't know the calling in sick procedure, overtime or anything...

What should I do? I'm a bit concerned that they could just drop me whenever they feel like it and have a feeling thats what they are planning...like only hired me to cover xmas even though they offered me a permanent position...

Am I right in thinking most jobs you have a 3 month probation period before they make it official?

I'd raise this with yoyr manager about policies you should have some sort of company hand book but you will be on probation first usually 16 weeks before you are classed as a permanent full time employee.

During this period you will not be entitled to book any holiday but may take holiday pre booked before joining (for example holiday you booked with your previous employer last year).

you shopuld have a appraisal after your probation where they can discuss the future of your employment until then they can dimiss you when ever they want to unfortunately as this period they can hide behind company employment policies, if your really concerned it's best you join the workers union.

Ok fair enough , i would be careful there especially if you have had no contract or paperwork to sign so far.

Do they have a HR department you can ask ?

You should of signed a contract, there's a section stating the probation period and terms for it, then obviously the rest is for once you have completed probation

Cheers guys, I'll have a word with the owner when he is in tomorrow. No HR department, its just a small company. Just don't want them to turn around and say jog on! I'd be screwed

I would say you Defo need to sign a contract within 1 Month, Max. I take it that you have been payed.

Did you get a pay slip? Keep it, them.

Have a look at the Tax Code that you are paying etc

Doesnt sound like a good company to work for if they don't look after their employees. How are they paying you exactly if they dont have an HR / Accounts department ?

Go to your manager/ whoever took you on and raise the issue. In most cases there is a probation period but that shall state that in your contract, and if you're in temporary work then after 12months you should be offered a permanent position!

Pretty sure anyway.
