It can depend on what bits of exhaust you're fitting (particularly custom ones) as to what may need cutting...

I fitted mine myself. If you change the catback only yes it will need cutting just after the cat. But if you change the cat and cat back or do a full system its all on bolts which makes fitting much easier.

Indeed. What Dan said

Mine is a custom cat back and the rest was fitted in stages so has needed cutting...

Or there's the other option. Get someone who knows what they're doing to fit it! It's a rubbish job!

Why does it need cutting though? Cause it'd stick out of the bumper too much? Or is it actually because the downpipe and cat are one piece? I've never looked.
Sorry for being slow

My old saxo's exhaust used to stick out of the bumper a bit, as it was a standard cat but janspeed cat back, but it looked pretty cool and wasn't a problem.

AND there's a sports cat on ebay 80 quid at the moment (will go up I guess) but it's pick up only. It IS only 30+ miles from my girlfriend's house though...
As I've said before though, the MIL issue puts me off getting one, unless it's easily sorted!

Oh my bad. The only reason it needs cutting is because the exhaust is one piece from the cat to the back. So the cat centre pipe and back box are all one pipe. The manifold and flexi pipe are separate. I just put it down to ford being idiots

What the crap
That sucks even more than I first thought haha. So really there's no point buying a catback to start with as I'd have to ruin the standard system lol. Which wouldn't be cool if I came to sell the car as standard. Dangit. Guess I'll just have to save for cat AND catback,

MIL issue easy to fix?

You don't ruin the standard system as such I mean yeah ok you have to cut it off but when you wanna go back to standard if you ever do its just a matter of getting the right clamps to put the old exhaust back on. You can get a mil eliminator for around £60-£70 but I've got sports cat so it's not triggered anyway. I'd say either go the whole whack and get sports cat or modify your standard cat so that you can put it in when it's due it's mot and then go back to decat for the rest of the time

Mate stop fannying around - just save up and get the full system. Job done

Loc: Aberdeen, kind of.
I would go for a full system of one brand rather than mixing and matching stuff.

Nothing wrong with something a bit more unique

I've seen some decent power gains with mine too

Millflow FTW

I'm only biased I suppose! If I would have been low on funds I would probably have powertek/millflow too but I had the money and it was burning a hole so I went for full milltek! good gains to be had either way though.

Mine is only a slightly cheaper option in that the cat-back is less than the Milltek. However I built mine up in stages as I didn't have roughly a grand lying around spare all at once

Yeah good gains either way, but I don't think as some might that I've seen any less than a same brand system. I'm happy enough with my 182 anyway!
