not heard of that before, didn't have anything in your passenger footwell that could have pulled the bonnet release?

nothing in the footwell, only thing i can think of was the road was quite bumpy dont know if that had an effect, thank god it has a double latch feature or it was throo the windcreen gonnae give the latch a good clean / grease see if that helps hopefully just a 1 off

could be a simple case of the bonnet not shutting properly, never push it down hold the bonnet up about a foot above closed and drop it.

or cable might need readjusting if it's lose the mechanism with a jolt can release it

Did you know that most of the times bonnets fly up on the motorways or get torn off into traffic is because people push the bonnet and it doesn't lock properly.

There was a big thing about this with the Renault Clio's as a lot of them were recalled, tested, and worked fine. The car was sent back to the dealership the customer called in and they were awkwardly patronised how to close the bonnet by dropping it to make sure a stiff catch is locked into place and charged for it.

Not only that your eventually leave two shallow dents where the pressure and pushed the metal work inwards.

some cars have built in features which require different methods of closing the bonnet, but safest way to do it is hold it about 6-10 inches above the latch and drop it and then push on either side to check it's definitely secure.

this is in the highway code as well. If your bonnet does come off on a motorway you can be given 3 points on your licence and a hefty fine to follow.

meh i push right above the catch and it feels solid for me...

i did drop the bonnet from around 6-10 inchs on my first fiesta and the catch got stuck... i needed someone to push down on the bonnet while pulling the catch to get it open... if i need to open the bonnet in an emergancy i would rather have that then anything... plus with the car being so rough (solid suspension) and me always watching the bonnet anyway i know when its not down peoperly... like when you let a garage do somework and pull out of there area and notice straight away the bonnets moving (past experince stupid garage)

also just by pushing down on the bonnet the catch gets stuck in the recess lip along the front lip of the bonnet and it won't lift unless you flick it down to pull it out with your fingers (painful when your hands are frozen)

+ 1

I once pushed my bonnet down with verrrry little effort which resulted with a nice dink at the front of the bonnet

If you are worried of snapping the 'release tab' off by dropping the bonnet, stand outside of the car, get someone to release the bonnet, and see how quick it shoots out ..... Dropping the bonnet from about 12 inches shoots it straight back in just as fast.

Regular greasing is required in and around the catch though.
