I recently moved house and my new driving license came through along with the new paper one (I'd lost the previous one ages ago). When I opened it I realised I'd forgotten to declare my 3 points to my insurance company.

I'm with admiral, fully comp and I paid the premium up front in one payment. The penalty is a PC30, I parked my car half in a parking bay and half on some zigzags to run into a shop way back in 2010, dumb I know.

Do people think this will seriously affect my premium? Will admiral kick up a fuss because I've only realised now but I insured with them as a new customer in November?

You need to tell them otherwise your insurance will be void unfortunately...

Just explain the error. It might go up a tiny bit but it's worth it - you're insurance is pretty worthless at the moment...

Other insurers will dig round to find this kind of stuff out to void your insurance if you ever needed to claim...

Yeah that's what I was worried about as soon as I opened up my license today. I'm going to ring them now and explain what's happened, I hate doing stuff like this, feel like an idiot when you have to tell them cause I know I should have done it before!

These things happen mate. If you were trying to pull a fast one though you wouldn't be ringing them to tell them would you...

As below,

If you tell them you forgot they can cancel your policy there and then. non refundable and your have to take another policy out for the rest of the year.

They could cancel and refuse any insurance again

They could just add it to the policy and renew it asking for more on top.

Also if you did have a crash and this was discovered when exchanging insurance details you would not be covered and police would take what's left of your car, no pay out and your got to court more points a massive fine and worst case scenario few months in prison.

they are not completely innocent though

DVLA as a requirement ask that all insurance companies check their customers insurance against their database on a regular basis for anything such as points and disqualifications.

It is a requirement that they check it.

You can dispute this through DVLA if the insurance company threaten you with a lawsuit as it is classed as fraud.

I think this is very unlikely personally - I think they'll just want some more pennies

They won't keep up to much of a fuss. I even doubt the premium will change as the offence you commited doesn't really affect the way you drive, does it, not like speeding etc.

It is still best to ring them up. Stason has outlined the worst cases that could happen, but worse still would be if you had a crash and were uninsured.

Just to add to your initial point, about not having the paper part of your licence for sometime. You have to make sure you look after it in future and if you lose it again get it replaced ASAP. It is still an offence not to have BOTH parts of your driving licence, along with your V5 (logbook), MOT certificate & insurance paperwork available for inspection by a police officer when requested at the roadside, and the only statutory defence (ie. they wouldn't charge you) is if you produce all these at a police station within seven days.

£1100, and I'm 24.

They've frozen the payment for 10 days and are getting it repriced tomorrow but I'm going to contact the English call centre before 11am and try and argue my case.

Well my bonfire hasn't been pissed on, it's been pooed on.

EDIT: Should also state no accidents etc or any other points at all and no non driving convictions.
