No discount. In fact if you pay by credit card theres a £2.50 charge, although its free with debit cards.

Tax on the ST is £150.00.

I'm sure it must be wrong, unless the emissions are slightly higher and just push it into the next band. The ST is just slightly below the threshold for being in the band above.

How do they check your car is insured then? Surely it could lead to people driving about uninsured but taxed unless they have access to the database.

They do a computer check with the insurers electronically via the Motor Insurance Database. For this reason, you can't tax your vehicle online if you've recently changed insurer, since it probabaly won't have been updated.
