Well yes it is lucky Rich can remember the code but as a future guide for members from a Master Technician with Ford:

Re rich's problem: "his problems may be related to the CHT sensor (Cylinder Head Temperature)" .. but, of course, as he hasnt seen your ST he cant say thats it for sure but its a suggestion for you incase it happens again

Re deleting fault codes: "Don't let anyone read and delete these codes , take it straight to your dealer and let them read them print them out and get your case started. Oh and no once them pratts delete them they're gone!!!"

Just to update on the fault I had in the first post. Had a ECU upgrade, after the fault I had with the engine warning light. They could still pick up the log of faults from the diagnostics so there was not a issue with the AA resetting it. The engineer showed me the fault from the ECU to the cylinder head sensor, he updated the ECU and remapped sensor and hey presto no fault. Brill. Many thanks guys for all the comments and recommendations that came thick and fast, but the most important thing is get it to the dealer ASAP.

Thanks Pinky, your Fordy friend was correct in saying that it was the Cylinder Head Sensor, the fault lay in the info it was receiving from the ECU.
