Hey all

Going to be replacing the spark plugs over the long weekend and wondered if anyone has any advice/tips having done it themselves before.
I have done spark plugs before but not on the ST. I have a socket set but not sure if the connecting bar is going to be long enough to reach down into the engine.
Any help would be useful before I start the job and then break something.

P.S. What should the gap be set at on the plugs?

Thanks

When you take the air box off, don't stick a screwdriver under the rubber stops and try pry them off, they snap. Just pull it up hard =L

Also don't pull the leads when your trying to get the spark plug cap off, seen them break so many times grab the cylindrical bit and just pull up hard there stiffer than normal on Fords for some reason!

Think you need a fairly long extension bar, can't really remember now though

Spark plugs should already be set

Cheers guys. I am fairly competent at these things but of course its always good to get the words of experience from other ST owners.

Have got some Nology plugs for the car, anyone else used these before?

Thanks!

All went well with the spark plug replacement and set the gap to 1.3mm. The standard gap on the plugs I got were really narrow, glad I checked them.
The old plugs barely had any electrodes left, they were like little pin heads. How the car was still firing I don't know!?!

Idle is better and performance slightly improved.

You sure they were not 'Iridiums' They are like pin heads and last a lifetime.

They would have been iridiums.

as mentioned a spark plug socket makes things a lot easier. I have one with a rubber insert and one that has a flexi head and is magnetic. Although on the st the rubber one will do fine from what I remember.

Apologies for the epic thread-dive, not sure what the rules are here, but I always prefer to not start a new thread when possible.

I have never changed the plugs on my Fiesta. They may have been changed as part of a service, but not by me. The car still purrs like a Kitten, but I figure they are well overdue.

So first noob problem, I can't figure out how to remove the airbox! I've opened it, which I don't know was necessary, but can't figure out how to remove it. Is it just brute force?

Then, what plugs should I be using? I'd planned to just read the existing plugs, but since I'm here, I should just ask.
