Hoping someone can shed a bit of light on something I've noticed a few times now, the first time I thought it was my error, but it happened again the other night.

Basically when changing down a gear (say third to second in this case), clutch in, I jab the accelerator enough to match the revs for that gear, only the car doesn't want to rev and the rpm keeps falling until I let the clutch out and engage the gear. It's happened a few times now but I'm not really sure what could be causing it. My original thought might be to take off the throttle body and give it a clean, would this be good place to start? Cheers.

I wouldn't have said it was the tb if it only does it with the clutch depressed

Do you have a face lift or pre face lift ST Adam?

It's most probably related to your throttle body worth giving it a good clean with some brake cleaner or white spirit.

I swear someone else has had this issue!

Thanks for the responses, it's a facelift model (08 reg).

Not sure if it's related but when in neutral and I rev the engine there always seems to be a small delay (bit longer than you would think to be normal) between me pressing the accelerator and the engine responding if that makes sense. You can't notice it when driving. Any one else get this? I'm still running the standard airbox so with this being so restrictive this might be the cause of that particular 'issue'?

I had a look at the throttle body this morning, I'm going to need some jubilee clips as I don't think the ones Ford fit will go back on once I take them off

Well the pre facelift had this problem before due to mapping issues with the ECU the facelift model had the update on manufacture.

You want to completely take the Throttle body off and out away from the inlet.

Get a cloth and clean both front and inside of the TB removing any black residue.

Worth also taking the airbox lid off and filter out to have a look to see if there is any dust or something blocking the free flow of air.

if this doesn't solve the problem.

Worth taking it into the garage as the problems could be anything from ignition problems to air leaks in the air inlet manifold.

Air filter has been recently changed, however I don't think it had been changed in a while as it was black, so I wouldn't be surprised if the throttle body is covered as well. Spark plugs have been changed as well, so that's another thing off the list.

Small suggestion is that i had an issue when accelerating and it was hesitating ended up needed a coul pack and one of my ht leads was gone!

Well I took my throttle body off yesterday. It wasn't as bad as I've been on here, but there was a build up of oil/residue around the valve especially on the engine side.

Needless to say, I cleaned it up with some carb cleaner and immediately noticed how much smoother the throttle response was when I took the car out for a quick spin. I revved out of gear and I haven't (yet?) come across the problem. Fingers crossed! Many thanks for your help.
